Flyers Commercial - Most Intimidating Fans
August 29, 2007
Not sure when the commercial was made. If it was for last season I don't remember seeing it. If it is for the upcoming season I suspect it wont run considering Pitkanen is gone.
Most intimidating fans?
I guess, maybe more so if the Flyers still played in the Spectrum.
But of course when this type of stuff is mentioned some schmuck has bring up the fans booing Santa incident.
One has to remember though that one, this happened a long time ago before many Flyer's fans were born. Before I was born and I'm no spring chicken. Also this was at a Eagles game not a Flyers game. While I am sure there is plenty of Flyers/Eagles fans there are plenty of Flyers only fans, like myself. So please don't lump us all in together.
No more goal judge
August 26, 2007

In one move the Flyers have decided they care more about squeezing money out of people and less about their fans (yes again). The Flyers like many other teams are nixing the goal judge, the old guy that sat behind the goal and pressed the button making the red light come on after a goal. Actually the goal judge, who really isn't much of a judge anymore, will sit up in the press box watching I assume a monitor focused on the goal. This really doesn't bother me. I would like to see them try to implement some sort of technology that would make the red light more automatic. Have some sort of chip, maybe RFID integrated into the puck and when it crosses the goal line the red light automatically goes off.
But anyway back to the annoying part. The Flyers in their wisdom have decided against putting in regular seats where the goalie judge box was, instead put in leather seats that are included in a midlevel suite package that would cost $225,000. You get both the Flyers and Sixers games.
I agree with Kristin, this is just wrong. The one nice thing about the club and luxury boxes is that they are separated from the fans. I am sure there are some fans in those boxes, but for the most part those are bought and paid for by businesses to schmooze their clients. By putting the schmoozers in with the fans and painting a bulls eye on them with the "special" seats and having a waitress trapes down thru out the game, it is just going to annoy the fans sitting in the area. Or you will have expensive seats paid for with no one in them to enjoy the game with the schmoozers either too busy to attend the game or up in the suite schmoozing.
Make the seats normal, like the rest in the area.
The New Guys
August 18, 2007
A new season and a bunch of new guys on the team.
Martin Biron G - Picked up from the Buffalo Sabres for a second round 2007 draft pick. Biron a Sabres first round draft pick back in 95 has played 316 games has 140 wins 2.55 GAA, .909 Sv% with 18 shutouts. The Flyers are hoping that Biron will be that sustainable #1 goalie that they have been missing for years.
Danny Briere C - The Flyers signed Briere to a 8 year contract this summer. Briere was a first round draft pick of the Coyotes in 1996. Briere has played 523 games and has 175 goals, 238 assists, with a -6 plus/minus. The Flyers are hoping Briere can be that #1 center.
Braydon Coburn D - The Flyers picked up Coburn from Atlanta trading away Alexei Zhitnik last season. Coburn was a first round draft pick of the Thrashers in 2003. TSN has Coburns potential as a top 4 defenseman.
Scott Hartnell LW/RW - The Flyers picked up Hartnell from Nashville this summer for a first round draft pick. Hartnell was a Nashville first round draft pick in 2000. TSN has Hartnell as a potential power forward.
Lasse Kukkonen D - The Flyers picked up Kukkonen from Chicago last season trading away Kyle Calder. Kukkonen was a 5th round Chicago draft pick in 2003. Kukkonen was picked up to help Pitkanen who is now gone.
Joffrey Lupul RW - The Flyers picked up Lupul & Smith in the Pitkanen & Sanderson trade this summer to the Oilers. Lupul was an Anaheim first round draft pick in 2002.
Jason Smith D - Smith was a Devils first round draft pick in 1992.
Scottie Upshall LW/RW - Flyers picked up Upshall with the Forsberg trade to Nashville. Upshall was a first round draft pick of Nashville in 2002. Upshall had 6 goals and 7 assists in 18 games last year with the Flyers.
Kimmo Timonen D - Flyers picked up Timonen from Nashville this summer. Timonen was a Kings 10th round draft pick back in 1993. Might possibly see Timonen and his brother get some ice time together.
