Flyers top Panthers in Shootout

FLYERS 3, PANTHERS 2 (SO): After practicing shootouts two days earlier, the Flyers prevailed when Simon Gagne scored on a nice backhander and Antero Niittymaki stopped all three shots he faced. Jeff Carter and Simon Gagne gave the Flyers an early lead, but a holding penalty to defenseman Randy Jones and a delay of game penalty to defenseman Kimmo Timonen led to power-play goals by Florida defensemen Bryan McCabe and Jay Bouwmeester. Richards tried s new move in the shootout, gliding very slowly toward Tomas Vokoun before darting at him at the last moment and getting stopped on a backhand.
