The Pittsburgh Penguins sent defenseman Ryan Whitney to the Anaheim Ducks yesterday for forward Chris Kunitz and a junior prospect.

Flyers to make decision on Briere after pregame practice
The Danny Briere decision will go right down to the wire. After saying all week that he hoped to play tonight at home against Montreal, the word from the Flyers was that they will not make a decision until after this morning's pregame practice.

Brodeur returns with 4-0 shutout
Vaananen, Metropolit waived
Before turning their full attention to next Wednesday's NHL trade deadline, the Flyers still had that little matter of first getting in compliance with the league salary cap. With Daniel Briere a possibility for returning from abdominal surgery to play in tonight's home game against Montreal, general manager Paul Holmgren had to make some moves. By putting defenseman Ossi Vaananen and center Glen Metropolit on waivers Thursday, Holmgren started the ball rolling in that direction.

Dream Waivers
I slept in absurdly late, and woke up realizing that the Flyers had probably already gotten rid of people to get ready for Daniel Briere's return Friday. As I staggered toward my computer, I decided that the two players I could most do without were Glen Metropolit and Ossi Vaananen. Well hot damn, I was sure excited to see my dreams come true.
