The Philadelphia Flyers waived center Glen Metropolit and defenseman Ossi Vaananen to clear salary cap space for Danny Briere's impending return. Briere was expected to return to the Flyers for Friday's game against Montreal. He has missed the last 35 games and played in only nine games this season because of surgery on his abdomen and groin.

As expected, the Flyers today waived center Glen Metropolit and defenseman Ossi Vaananen, clearing the way for Danny Briere to return from groin surgery that has kept him out of all but 9 games this season. Metropolit and Vaananen each make $1 million and both could be claimed by a team looking for depth at forward and defense for the playoffs.

With Ossi Vaananen also being waived today, all the Flyers have to do now is move Lasse Kukkonen and should be able to get under the cap. That means Powe can remain on the roster ..

Wow what a difference passion makes in a game. You could have cut the intensity with a knife in DC and it apparently wasn't there last night for the Kings. The Flyers were able to storm back with a flury of three goals in the third and beat the Caps 4-2 on Tuesday
