Deshawn the Beef Patty Thief

( another entry in our Slow Summer Series, posts about life outside the rink) Every Monday I leave work at 10:30, head west on 49th street, traverse Times Square, and eventually end up in front of Public School 5A. I do this because I participate in a program called Reading is Super in which volunteers are paired up with students for an afternoon of reading. It wasn't too long ago that I was making this trip for the first time, unaware of the student that awaited my arrival. 15 minutes after I passed through the revolving doors at 1661 Avenue of the Americas I was standing in front of the three sets of double doors that lead into PS 5A.
