Boucher about to become a Flyer?

Paul Holmgren told me he couldn't speak about it until Wednesday and his agent has not yet returned my call, but I'm guessing the Flyers will sign  Brian Boucher as the backup to Ray Emery on the first day of free agency on Wednesday. Boucher makes perfect sense on all levels.  He was an excellent backup in San Jose last season and made no waves about riding the pine. He'll come cheap at around $750,000. He loves this area and is a true team player

Knuble says window is closing

Just talked with Mike Knuble, who said negotiations with his agent and Paul Holmgren are scheduled to continue tonight. Knuble spoke briefly with his agent, Kurt Overhardt, who told him to brace himself for a busy day of offers on Wednesaday. The sticking point with the Flyers is term: Knuble wants two years, the Flyers are offering one. "I need to start making plans for other things," Knuble said

Flyers, Knuble still talking

With Wednesday's free agency period looming, the Flyers and Mike Knuble continue contract talks today. The Flyers are believed to be offering an incentive-based one-year dea with a base salary in the $1 million range. Knuble likely is seeking a two-year agreement with a higher base salary, probably in the $2 million range. The Flyers have about $5 million to spend and need to find a backup goaltender and would like to add an inexpensive fourth-line center who can win draws, much Jim Dowd two years ago.

Get the Goalie, Re-sign Knuble

Lately, the Flyers have been playing things very close to the vest You have a better chance of finding a leak under your sink than in GM Paul Holmgren's sound proof office. Give them credit. They did a fine job of misdirecting everyone with the Chris Pronger deal. All along, they were courting Jay Bouwmeester, but had the ace in the hole.

So where are we heading into Free agency

How does this team stand going into free agency? ~$4.2 million in cap space. These are potential lines and holes in the lines. Forwards Gagne - Richards - Briere Giroux - Carter - Hartnell Carcillo - Powe - Asham Cote/Kalinski - Open - Nodl I feel that both Kalinski and Nodl will make the team out of camp and they both played some minutes last year

In Defense of Danny

There was some chatter in the comments section yesterday about Danny Briere and his lucrative contract that got me thinking. See, I'm one of the few Flyers fans, at least as far as I can tell from the internet, that thinks we should hold onto Danny Briere because he's going to have a lot of big seasons to come. Well, that and his wine and cheese parties are on the hook, but that's besides the point. I'm constantly reading opinions that we overpaid for the tiny little Frenchman, but that's blatantly not true.
