Prongergate, On 2 Days Rest

Man was I surprised on Friday when Gary Bettman was telling me that the Flyers had just traded for Chris Pronger. I didn’t even know it was an option. I had spent a month reading and writing about Jay Bouwmeester and other upcoming free agents exclusively and had never even considered the possibility that the Flyers would trade for a defenseman who was under contract. And that that defenseman could be Chris Pronger.

Draft round-up

Alright, the draft is finally over. I really like how the NHL can blow through six whole draft rounds in about four hours, unlike the NFL who don't finish their draft until the first week of May. Besides the Flyers trading for Pronger, probably the biggest move was Florida trading the rights for Jay Bouwmeester to Calgary for Jordan Leopold and the 67th overall pick. Mind you, they traded the rights to Bouwmeester, which means Calgary has won the chance to talk to him, it's not like he's on the team yet

Flyers acquire tough defenseman Pronger from Ducks for Lupul, Sbisa, draft picks

THE FLYERS HAVE lacked punch in front of their net since Derian Hatcher's knees gave out. And while they moved to a more mobile, puck-moving, defense, it was clear all last season that no opposing forward paid a price for camping on the Flyers' doorstep.
