Hockey History – Brooklyn Americans

Whenever I'm watching a nationally televised baseball game they, without a doubt, compare some stat from someone in the game against a similar stat from someone who killed Japs in World War II. Without fail when you're watching the Yankees and Red Sox (again) on FOX this Saturday afternoon they will put Honus Wagner's and Robinson Cano's pictures side by side and under them it will say "Stolen bases before turning 27 years old", 210 and 208 respectively, and "Japs killed before turning 27 years old", 210 and 1 respectively. Just because baseball has traditionally been a sport obsessed with its own history and statistics in general doesn't mean that it's the only sport that has a rich history and a ton of stats. And that's why I'm going to tell you the story of one of The War's, and hockey's, unsung heroes

We also talked about Philly fans and their strong reaction to the Eagles signing of Michael Vick.  Pronger, who owns two labs, has been involved in several charitable organizations throughout his NHL career, mostly with children's hospitals and local food banks. Meltzer's Musings: Flyers defensive depth

As the weeks wind down to the start of training camp and the 2009-10 NHL season, the Flyers are likely to be mentioned as one of the top contenders to emerge from the Eastern Conference come playoff time. I've always found it to be an exercise in futility to make any sort of predictions at this stage -- there's simply too much that changes and too many variables over the course of the regular
