Flyers – Leafs Upgraded to Rivalry Level Orange

It’d never be possible to have a real rivalry with a Canadian team just because, simply put, we’re not in the club. Especially when it comes to a Canadian team that was part of the original six – just not possible.

Now thats more like it

Last night, the Flyers took on the Maple Leafs in T-dot and put up perhaps the strongest effort so far in this preseason.  Although they lost, they saw goals by Danny Breeze, Mike Richards and Chris Pronger.  There was also a good deal of the rough stuff with Cote, Carcillo, Powe and Lappy all throwing off their mittens.  It was a game that I'd be happy about the effort if it was a regualr season game.  Guys stuck up for each other, battled hard on the forecheck and played good on the road.  Cleary with a fully stocked team, I don't think Toronto hangs around at all, but we can give them this one.  They were probably all amped because of thier recent trade to get that paddington-bear-looking Phil Kessel. Here are the highlights, all wrapped up in 6 minutes.

Briere shines in Flyers' loss

TORONTO - Danny Briere last night started showing what he means to the Flyers when he is healthy. Briere, who missed most of last season with groin and abdominal injuries, scored two second-period goals, but the Flyers self-destructed late in the preseason game as they fell to the Toronto Maple Leafs, 5-4, in a chippy overtime affair at the Air Canada Centre.
