Jones Claimed by Kings, Betts and Parent to Return Saturday

Well according to the Flyers “On The Fly” portion of their website, Randy Jones has been picked up by the Los Angeles Kings on re-entry waivers. This means instead of his 3 million cap hit, we only take half of it. So who will be playing on the 3rd pair come Saturday?

Randy Jones….why the hell not?

With Simon Gagne being put on long term IR, the Flyers now have the cap space to fit Randy Jones in (assuming he clears through waivers). I'm not a big Jones fan, but at this point, I think its good to have him with the big club. First off, the defense sucks this year, with the exception of Pronger and Carle. Timonen looks like a shell of his former self so far, and Coburn looks alot like Steve Eminger to me. I think Jones will play the best hockey of his career. I'm sure he'll say all the right things, but he couldn't have been happy with being sent to the minors. He'll want to play well enough that the team will have no choice but to keep him with the big club. Not to mention, this is the last year of his contract, I can guarantee that he wont get the $3 million a year contract that the Flyers gave him a couple years ago, but if he can prove to be a servicable 4th/5th defensmen, there will be a few team who would be willing to offer him a decent contract

The Local Boys: Colby Cohen

What would you think if I told you there's a local hockey prospect, who's already been drafted, who has a cousin that played for the Eagles. You'd think "no fuckin' way!" Well I'm here to tell you "fuckin' way!" Let's skip to the end first on this one. Villanova, PA's own Colby Cohen, who indeed happens to be cousin to former Eagle Jeremy Bloom, is currently a Junior at Boston University who was drafted 45th overall by the Avalanche in the 2007. How he came to be a key component of an NCAA championship as a sophomore is a great example of the extreme lengths a local teenager will take to make it to the NHL. Colby Cohen grew up playing his youth hockey in the Junior Flyers organization

Stevens Does Devo

"...we'll take days off when we start winning hockey games" - Coach John Stevens (from Philly.com ) How long have we waited to hear Stevens say something like this? So he held a 'punishing' practice yesterday. From the article, it's hard to tell if punishing meant anything more than: No day off No music after practice A stern talking to Maybe I should take notes as a manager. No more music!!! Anyways... the guys seem to be saying the right things in response to the day off.
