Are Flyers Interested in Shanahan??

With the Flyers waiting word today on whether Simon Gagne will miss significant time with two small hernias, there is a distinct possiblity they will increase their efforts to sign future Hall of Fame left wing Brendan Shanahan to a one-year contract. Shanahan nearly became a Flyer last January, but instead signed a prorated $800,000 contract with the Devils. He reported for training camp but abruptly left camp, saying he did not believe it was a suitable fit for him. The Flyers could use a physical presence along the boards and in front of the net after the departure of Mike Knuble. And although Shanahan is way past his prime at 40 years old, he might provide more offense during Gagne's recovery than anyone currently with the Phantoms

The Kid's Alright

Last night we were watching the game in the FGSB studios and it occurred to me that even though I had been taking part in the Braydon Coburn bashing I hadn't really noticed him play that badly, save a few ugly turnovers. So last night we focused the Fran Cam on Coburn all night long, every shift, and you can read through his play shift by shift or just check out the recap below it if you want to save 20 minutes: 1st Period Shift 1 - Bit of a misplay on Semin drop pass. Cleared a rebound but right to the point man and ultimately blocks Semin's shot.

Crosby to carry Olympic torch

Sidney Crosby is seen as a torchbearer for the NHL, and now he'll carry the Olympic torch in his home province of Nova Scotia. The Pittsburgh Penguins captain will run in the torch relay Nov. 18 in Halifax, and will play for Canada in the Olympic hockey tournament during the Winter Games in Vancouver in February.
