Broad Street Bikers Trekking to Fenway

I came across an interesting story about two frat guys who are in the process of riding a tandem bicycle from Philly to Fenway to get to the Winter Classic and raise money for charity. They’re asking for donations, so I’m just trying to get the word out for a good cause; Charity

Flyers and Gagne FINALLY Get the Wheels Rolling and Win Four Straight

Wow. The Flyers came out to play last night at a pace that not many teams are accustomed to seeing them play. They opened up the game with each line throwing pucks at Lundqvist and set up an easy 6-0 win. Blair Betts’ goal in the first minute of the period was

Gagne’s Hat-Trick Helps Destroy Rangers

When coach Peter Laviolette told the media and his team that he doesn’t want anyone thinking about the Winter Classic to only focus on the Rangers, he meant it. The team themselves, got it. The Philadelphia Flyers dominated the New York Rangers last night by blanking them 6-0. There wasn’t one point of the game where someone could say the Rangers were better. Not a chance. The Flyers played last night the way everyone expects them to every game. Simon Gagne compiled his second of three career hat-tricks last night and added a helper, and the Flyers stretched their winning streak to four games as they can now prepare for the Winter Classic.

Meltzer's Musings: 12-31-09

The Flyers did a tremendous job of building off their win on Long Island and playing one of their best all-around games of the season in humiliating the Rangers by a 6-0 score at Madison Square Garden last night. While the Rangers didn't help their own cause at all, the Flyers deserve credit for playing with the sort of focus and intensity that had back lacking far too often during the 2009 portio

Beating the Rangers in MSG

I thought I had died and gone to heaven when half of my row didn't return after the first period. I knew I had died and gone to heaven when James van Riemsdyk's parents hoisted me up on their shoulders and carried me to the bathroom after the second period. I had been hoping the story lines around the Winter Classic would be about the resurgent Flyers, and now I will not be disappointed. In 2005 I lived at 102 West 29th Street in Manhattan. It was my first stop out of college and when the tour groups of the future go through my re-created apartment they'll be amazed that a prodigy lived in such conditions. In regards to hockey though, it's honestly the same distance from MSG as the Wachovia center is to the Spectrum. That's not an exaggeration. If anything it might be closer.

Phantom Caught Getting a Little Too Sexy with Rat

While the Flyers were busy thumping the Rangers in NYC last night the Phantoms were doing the same upstate in Albany to the River Rats. Although the score wasn't as lop-sided as the Flyers game the Phantoms out shot the Rats 42 to 19 in a night filled with fisticuffs. Well, more hugging and falling that actual punching, but there were 6 fighting majors and Patrick Maroon was knocked unconscious by Jimmy Superfly Snooka in a scrum in the first. But it was late in the game when the in-rink production team and the players had two different things in mind that left Logan Stephenson and Zack Fitzgerald in a funny, if not sexy position for all the romantics to witness: That's what I like in a defenseman. Not afraid to get in your face. With his lips. We actually were in attendance at the Rangers game last night and it was nice to meet a few of you that stopped by, and it was extremely nice to sit in the vicinity of a giant man with an Everett 62 Flyers jersey on that kept all the Rangers fans in our corner of the building respectful. More to come on my time behind enemy lines later in the afternoon.
