Boosh, Razor Back on Ice

The Razor was making an edge on the ice today at Skate Zone. Ray Emery was back at practice but says he is just 65-70 percent and still, in the words of coach Peter Laviolette, "a way's away," from returning. The 6-week figure for recovery from abdominal surgery would put Emery at Jan. 20. He thinks he is ahead of schedule and said he actually began skating last week while the Flyers were on

Philadelphia Flyers: And The Applause Meter Says?

With last night’s 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum, the Flyers are on their first three game winning streak since November 12. Did the Flyers beat any teams that are likely to be in the post season this year? Well no, they beat: Tampa Bay Lightning (sinking ship) Carolina Hurricanes (worst record in the Eastern

Leighton leads Flyers to three straight

Now that the Flyers have strung together three straight victories under Peter Laviolette, the coach now has a crucial decision on his hands. Does he stick with emergency third-string goaltender Michael Leighton, who has allowed just six goals in his last three starts? Or does he go back to Brian Boucher, who suffered a lacerated right ring finger last week and is cleared to play? Leighton has played 80 games in his NHL career and has never before won three in a row. The fact that he played back-to-back games with Boucher healthy might be an indication Laviolette will play him until he loses. If that’s the case, Leighton could be back between the pipes Wednesday night in New York when the Flyers visit the Rangers And if Leighton starts and wins that game, he could win the Massachusetts lottery and be in goal for the New Year’s Day Winter Classic in Boston’s historic Fenway Park. That was something Boucher was secretly pining for.

Team Rallying In Front of Leighton

You can't say there wasn't some small part of you that thought, or at least hoped, that when you saw Brian Boucher being examined over at the Flyers bench during last week's loss to Florida that Michael Leighton was something these guys could rally around. When nothing seems to be the kick in the ass that your team needs having a goalie backstopping you with a taped up helmet is as strong as the coffee gets. And although it hasn't been pretty over the last three games, as the Flyers themselves are freely willing to admit, they have earned six points and are now only two points back from being in a three way tie for 8th place in the Conference. That's something you can work with.   Getting up to and then through the Winter Classic involves beating a team that we owe one to and then the Bruins in a circus game after we already were able to storm back against them a couple of weeks ago. If we can somehow win these two suddenly things don't seem so desperate.

Ryan Paren’t Lower Body Injury

When the Flyers won’t provide the full scoop on team injuries, I sometimes find it helpful to search out the Facebook pages of players to get the details, where the guys tend to relax with the cliches and media training a little bit more than they do with the beat writers. And if the players won’t
