Homestand Ends with 8 Points Out of 12; The No-Goal Trend and New D-Man

The Flyers finished their homestand 4-2, with the two losses coming at the end of each game in disappointing fashion. They finished off the Islanders on Saturday in what was a pretty tight game. Now they go on a 3 game road trip through Calgary, Edmonton, and Minnesota before coming back home for

Despite inept officials, Flyers beat Isles to end home stand

PHILADELPHIA- It wasn’t a pretty way to end their six-game homestand, but it was a win. The Flyers overcame adversity because of nonsensical officiating to beat the New York Islanders 2-1 from the Wachovia Center this afternoon. Danny Briere and Scott Hartnell each scored to help push the Flyers past the slumping Islanders. Inside Flyers’ 2-1 win over Islanders

Peter Laviolette has a lot of good qualities as a coach. Patience is not one of them. Having grown tired of a lack of scoring punch from his top two lines, Laviolette shook up his lineup against the Islanders by giving Mike Richards and Jeff Carter new sets of wingers. Simon Gagne, who had one goal in 13 game before Saturday, is now playing on Richards’ left side, while right wing Scott Hartnell, who had two goals in his previous 25 games, is now Richards’ right wing. “Actually, I don’t mind,” said Hartnell, who scored a power play goal in Saturday’s 2-1 win. “I like driving the net from the right side on your backhand.
