Flyers Gameday: 1-19-10 vs. Columbus

PREVIEW (8:30 AM) Over the course of this topsy-turvy season, it seems like Flyers have been down to the crossroads more times than Robert Johnson and Eric Clapton combined. That's where they are again on the heels of getting shut out by Toronto and allowing a pair of leads to evaporate in a 5-3 loss in Washington. The Flyers now embark on a season-long six game homestand. With the Olympics rig

Flyers vs Soviet Red Army

On January 11, 1976 the Philadelphia Flyers played and beat the Soviet Red Army Team also know as HC CSKA Moscow by the score 4-1.
The NHL has made the entire game available to watch on youtube. Unfortuantaetly they have decided not to allow sites like this one to embed the video.

Philly Media Can Give It, But Can't Take It

I generally find myself in agreement with Puck Daddy's Greg Wyshynski, but his article today on Mike Richards' soon to be infamous battle with the Philadephia media has us seeing the same situation through two different lenses.   I think as a journalist, which Greg is even though he's also a blogger, Richards' accusations of the local media "making stuff up" is something you can't help but focus on. Journalism is based upon integrity - it's the foundation of the industry. But Richards is not a journalist and the local beat writers are taking offense to to his actual choice of words and totally missing the point. What Mike Richards is getting at is that the local media makes issues out of situations where there previously were none. The Flyers goaltending situation right now is a perfect example.

Meltzer's Musings: 1-18-10

The Flyers turned in a hard-working performance yesterday in Washington and only took one penalty (plus a penalty shot ) for the entire game. Unfortunately for Philly, the result was still the same as it usually is when the club faces a true contending team. The Flyers did not take care of the puck and did not clean up in front of their net, and that's usually fatal against a team like Washing

Flyers Caps Re-cap

The Flyers got beaten by a better team yesterday, plain & simple. Although, in my opinion, the Flyers didnt show up yesterday, even if they did, the Caps are one of the top 5 teams in the league, and you have to be hitting on all cylinders to be competitive with them. In the grand scheme of things, its just one loss (and 2 in a row), and Im certainly not going to lose any sleep over it, but this team dosent have the room to lose points in the standings. I think the difference between the 6th seed and the 10th seed will probably only be 5-6 points, so this team needs to get back on track. Some quick notes from Sunday's game- -Ole Kristian Tollefson is completely 100% useless, he is no where near a NHL caliber defensemen -I dont care what anyone says. If this team is going to make the playoffs, and make a run once they get there, Ray Emery is the guy to take us there. No disrespect to Michael Leighton, but Emery is a better goalie

Richards Again Upset With Media

WASHINGTON _ The worst part of Sunday's 5-3 Flyer loss to the Capitals wasn't the game itself but the confrontation after the game between Flyer captain Mike Richards and the Philly media. The Cold War was re-ignited when Richards was asked about comments he made in The Hockey News' Jan. 25 issue saying the media here make up stories. The Q&A with the beat writers after today's game got na

Richards Fires Shots at Philly Media

What's your opinion on this??? In the opinion of Flyers captain Mike Richards, it’s always sunny in Philadelphia, except of course, when you’re dealing with the media. That is the message Richards delivers in a cover story about him in the Jan. 25 issue of The Hockey News. In the story, written by Adam Proteau, Richards paints the Philadelphia media as unrelenting in its criticism, an assertion he reiterated in a heated post-game interview following the Flyers’ 5-3 loss to the Washington Capitals on Sunday.
