Carolina Hurricanes @ Philadelphia Flyers 1/23/10
This is great drama folks. As if the Flyers-Pens series didn't need more fuel to the fire, yesterday's game found a way to squeeze more juice out of the cross-state rivalry. More biting, more bad reffing, more intense hockey... what's not to love. Except that the Flyers lost. What's it all mean? Not much really... other than the next game is going to be super hyped and for some unknown and somehow significant reason, the Flyer and their fans will continue to judge themselves in their success against the Yinzers from the west side of PA

Penguins winger Matt Cooke told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette today that he did not bite Flyers winger Arron Asham on Sunday and accused Asham of starting the altercation between them. "No," Cooke said Monday when asked if he had bitten Asham. "There was a scrum, and I went in and grabbed (Flyers winger Scott) Hartnell and had a ahold of him. All I knew was that someone was the third man in the pile, grabbing me, scratching my face, digging and clawing the third or fourth time. "Then, I found out (who) later, proceeded to rip my helmet off and punch me in the back of the head four or five times. And I have the welts to prove it." After Sunday's game, Asham called Cooke "gutless," "garbage" and a "chicken" for refusing to fight him

When Sergei Gonchar scored the 4th goal in the Penguins Shhh Comeback last April so effortlessly he became my most hated Penguin. Crosby, Staal, Malkin, Orpik - I dislike them. But I think I always had it in me to hate Gonchar. Before the puck came to him you knew he was going to score. As he began to wind up you knew where it was going. And when it was sitting in the net behind Marty Biron you were laying on the floor, beer spilled everywhere. When Sergei Gonchar laid a hit on one of the toughest little fuckers in the NHL a couple weeks ago that would have seen him suspended for 20 games if the hit had taken place in the OHL and he got off Scott free because of a supossed good reputation, he joined Steve Ott on the tallest podium I have as one of my most hated ambassadors of a a game a luuuuv (Miller Lite commercial that is not funny).

Flyers right wing Arron Asham has accused Penguins forward Matt Cooke of biting him during a third period scrum. Asham told a small group of reporters following the Flyers’ 2-1 loss to the Penguins that while he was pulling Cooke off teammate Scott Hartnell, Cooke bit his finger. Here is Asham’s account: There was a scrum, I grabbed him. There were two guys on Harts and my glove got tangled in his mouth and he bit me, so I lost it. It’s not bad, but he’s a gutless guy. I have no respect for him at all.
