Philly Knockout: Flyers beat up Rangers, 2-0

PHILADELPHIA- You could almost hear boxing ring announcer Michael Buffer sound off his famous tagline of “Let’s get to rumble,” when watching last night’s Flyers shutout win over the New York Rangers. For the second straight time, the Flyers made a statement against their division rivals. First it was a 6-0 drubbing in Madison Square Garden, this time it was 2-0 in a sold-out Wachovia Center. Philadelphia controlled and dominated all aspects of the game. One-on-one battles, forechecking, and how can we forget the fights. All this; however, came in second because more importantly the Flyers pulled within two points of the sixth-seeded Rangers. “I don’t know if you can say it’s a statement game, but we played well against a team that is playing well and didn’t give them a whole lot of chances,” said captain Mike Richards. Besides the Carcillo beating of Ranger superstar Marian Gaborik in the second period, Gaborik was held silent the entire night, just as the rest of his New York teammates

Ranger Domination

The last two games against the Rangers have seen complete domination. Last nights game against the New York Rangers saw the Flyers play the perfect game. Emery posted a shutout and the Defense was stellar. Most of the game had great action and was played with the Flyers controlling the puck. The highlights of the night had to be Torts blowing a fuse again after the Carcillo fight. I love the fact that he blames Carcillo for the fight but if you watch the replay Gaborik is dropping the gloves first. Even in the post game Carcillo said he was surprised but when it happened he was licking his chops.

Marion, Control Your Temper

Danny Briere is in a scrum off to the side of the net and Donald Brashear rips him out of it. They exchange some gloves to the face. Danny drops his gloves. What I would hope, as a Flyers fan, is that Donald Brashear would just kind of hold him and laugh at him. But as soon as Briere's gloveless hands came anywhere near Brashear's face I'm not sure what would happen. If Brashear ended up wailing on Briere I would hope someone would jump in as the third man. Either way I'd call Brashear a goon, say that there's no honor in what he did - every mild-mannered insult I could think of. But in the end, once again as a Flyers fan, all my thoughts would come back to "Danny, what were you thinking?" Last night Marion Gaborik threw a piece of raw meat to a french bulldog with rabies

Torts: No Honor

I couldn't believe Marian Gaborik would FIRST drop his gloves with Dan Carcillo. Apparently, Rangers head coach, John Tortorella couldn't believe it either, blaming Carcillo and all but calling him a coward for fighting a skill player. Go look at the replay, Torts. Gabby drops 'em first. Anyway, aside from the usual post-game exchange between Torts and Larry Brooks, there was the mock Tor

Flyers-Rangers wrapup and Gameday Preview vs. Carolina

The Flyers played one of their best all-around games of the season in shutting out the Rangers 2-0 at the Wachovia Center. It was important that the club show it could elevate its game against an opponent that had been playing well of late, and the Flyers did just that. Philly limited the Blueshirts chances and avoided getting pinned in their own zone for prolonged stretches. Scoring in the waning
