Inside Flyers’ win over Canadiens

Fresh off back-to-back comeback wins over the Devils, the Flyers grabbed a 3-0 lead on a pair of goals by Jeff Carter and another by Matt Carle, then forgot what to do. A few sloppy shifts at the start of the third period allowed the Habs, who entered the game one point ahead of the Flyers, back in the game. With 2:05 gone in the period former Flyer Glen Metropolit banked a shot off the skate of Danny Briere and behind goaltender Michael Leighton. Dominic Moore, acquired one day earlier from the Florida Panthers, made it 3-2 less than a minute later when he fired a bad-angle shot off the back of Leighton and into the net. “I think we thought it might have been an easy third period,” Flyers winger Scott Hartnell said. “They came at us hard, but we killed off the penalty late.” NOTES, QUOTES --In the 10 weeks since Peter Laviolette took over for John Stevens the Flyers have overtaken four teams in the Eastern Conference standings and can close out their pre-Olympic schedule all alone in sixth place with a win Saturday night in Montreal. --The Flyers have won three in a row, five of their last seven, and eight of their past 12. --The Flyers have won nine of their last 11 games at the Wachovia Center.

Is Ashy Larry Worth Re-signing?

Photo:

Ohhhhhhhh. You didn't know about that did you? What better time to talk about the Flyers re-signing Les Habitants' 3rd Round pick from the 1996 draft than during the meat of a Canadian sandwich? The Flyers made a great move yesterday by locking up and down 4th line superstud Blair Betts. That the Rangers passed up his incredible skill set for a $2.8M appartus that they have since waived and we've now signed Betts for half of that is truly amazing. I've always been a huge proponent of signing players you know you want to keep mid year and getting that 'secure future' discount, so I was wondering if there was anyone else we should look at signing before the season ends. And the only guy I think might be worth it is Arron Asham. Maybe because along with the newly acquired Lucas Krajicek he's the only impending UFA, or maybe because I love his little Chinese face

Flyers Gameday: The 2nd Doubleheader

Photo:

6pm start time? Is this for serious? I know there is this special thing going down on the other side of Canada...but come on. 6pm is barely enough time to duck out of work, pick up some fermented yeast and start drinking your week away. But I guess we'll have to make due. Those Montreal Canadians are in town tonight to take on the comeback kids and to start another home and home that will end tomorrow night. 2 games in two nights and then we shift to the Olympics. Two games in two nights against a hot Montreal team
