Hope everybodys doing well! Not much going on today, just thought I would post a quick update on the USA situation. We play the Suisse tomorrow at noon. They had a long day today beating Belarus in a shootout, and now have to play in a back to back situation against us tomorrow. Jonas Hiller was great in net again for them today and near perfect in the shootout. Our day was early with practice at 1130. Just a quick one, to get some kinks out after a day off, and work the puck around with linemates. We all watched the shootout from the cafeteria here at the village, and then went our own ways for the afternoon.

USA-Canada proved fighting isn’t needed in NHL

Photo:

It’s already become public knowledge that Sunday’s United States shocking win over heavy favorite Canada was by far the most exciting hockey game that’s been put on television in quite a few years, maybe even a decade. The hockey game itself drew over 10 million viewers, and that’s on MSNBC. Imagine if the game was broadcasted on NBC, the network that sponsors the NHL. USA’s 5-3 defeat over Canada in Vancouver was an absolute instant classic. The game produced ratings that beat out last years game seven Stanley Cup Finals. However, something was missing. Somethings been missing throughout the entire 2010 Olympic hockey tournament.

Laviolette, Hatcher talking USA Hockey

Former USA Olympian and Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette quotes regarding USA Men's Olympic Hockey Team. Q: How does win over Canada help Team USA in confidence level? PL: "I think everybody had Canada picked to go very deep in the tournament and obviously USA was unknown with so many first-time Olympians and a young squad. Anytime you can win big games like that it breeds confidence and you take that with you as you move on in the tournament or as you are trying to reach a goal. When you can knock off what is predicted to be one of the top teams, if not the best team in the tournament and you do it in the matter of which they did it, I think you gain confidence from that. They (USA) are still going to have to beat a couple very good teams down the stretch in order to continue to chase their dream. "Really, along with the confidence came the seeding and the match-up that they were looking for

I can't lie... I don't think I've ever been more uninterested in the Olympics. I know there's supposed to be all this intrigue and excitement, but I've really come to the place of "Really? Who gives a rip." I think I was excited for about five seconds there then I saw some paint drying. About the only thing that's interested me, outside of watching a little hockey and ice shuffleboard - er, curling, was tracking how Tony Benshoof did in the men's luge. Little known fact is that I went to school and graduated with Tony way back in '93.

How Much Would You Bid to Skate in Warm Ups?

The Flyers are always doing great things for local and national charities. Their online auctions, the Flyers Fight for Lives Carnival, and local appearances all serve to raise money for foundations and organizations that strive to cure disease or at least provide a better life to those who have been unfairly afflicted. With privilege comes responsibility. But while it costs a couple hundred dollars to sit on the Flyers bench during warm ups, how much would someone pay to skate with the Flyers during a pre-season warm up next year? My guess is a lot. The pre-season is a time for all sorts of goofy ideas - inviting Hayley Wickenheiser to training camp, staring Maneau Rheaume in net, dressing Mark Bell
