Drury Shelling Richards in Battle of Original 13
From the get-go I was a fan of Chris Drury making Team USA. I've always had an affinity for Drury since my first and only Boston University hockey game also happened to be the game in which the pride of Trumbull, CT scored his 100th collegiate goal during the winter of 1998. I never even got involved in any of the online debates surrounding Drury's selection - it just seemed to make sense. I see a lot more Rangers games and read a lot more New York media than I care to admit, living in New York. So I was vaguely aware that Drury wasn't living up to his contract (one of the many).

Flyers Files February 22
Hey Guys! My apologies for not getting to write earlier after the game last night but that one just had to be celebrated right away! I got to see some family and go out for a bite in town. It was nice walking around town listening to people boo our american apparel! Today is an off day for us. Another chance to spend some time with family and get away from the rink. I plan on getting around the city a bit, hopefully do some shopping and maybe catch a late dinner and movie. Yesterdays game was unlike anything I have ever played in before. The crowd was pretty loud, but thankfully not to hostile! We were even able to hear a few USA chants through it all! We held onto the lead with some impressive play by Ryan Miller in net, and some huge blocked shots by our defense to come out on top 5-3. We are still waiting to find out who we play moving forward, but after a win against Canada, we feel like we are on top of the world

Whoa Canada!
I found it a bit strange that last night when Mike Richards would get the puck I was kind of hoping he'd do something good. Not too good, but I wanted him to dazzle the Canadians a bit. As in "Yeah we lost, but that Mike Richards is incredible." Strangely enough I didn't feel anything like that when Chris Pronger had the puck. I wanted that lightning bolt to cough it up or get beat wide by Patrick Kane. I think that's mainly because Pronger has won the Cup, a Gold Medal, and is nearing the end of what will probably be a Hall of Fame career. Where as Richards, I feel, still has a number of sceptics and needs to prove himself both as a consistent talent in the NHL and a leader worthy of the C.

Can the U.S. Upstage Canada?
It ain't exactly the Super Bowl, but I think a lot of puckheads in the U.S. will be glued to their TVs tonight for Canada-USA. The Great One has already prognosticated a Canada-Russian gold medal final. The nerve of him. Why am I only one who thinks the U.S. might upset Canada given the way its played so far here? A lot of Canadian journalists weren't happy with Canada's final roster.

USA and Canada to Meet for First Time in 8 Years
While everyone's looking forward to tomorrow's match up between the US and Canada let's take a minute to look back to the last time these two teams met in Olympic competition:
Now, me and hockey broke up for a little bit between 2000 and 2005, so I'm not sure that I even saw this game, but it looks like it was a barn burner. It's hard to believe that after a disappointing 2006 for both countries in Torino that it's actually been 8 years since the Canadians stole Gold from us on home soil. All because of Chris Pronger's deft passing and Simon Gagne's ability to take a high stick. I was surprised to see how excited the Canadians were in that clip. I think it's because some part of me strangely thinks that all Canadian hockey players have Gold medals when they've only won a single Olympics since the 50's. Or it's maybe the other part that thinks these guys have enough money to make me crab walk from Philly to Nebraska if they decided they wanted to see it. I might have a problem in general with what I think rich people think.

Friday
Hey Guys, sorry for missing out on a post last night. After the norway game we got a chance to get out and enjoy some time with family. That being said, thanks to everyone for viewing the blog, I hope its interesting enough to keep you coming back. Today is an off day for us, kind of a chance to relax and hang with the guys in the village and play cards, and watch events on tv. In case you missed it yesterday, we beat Norway 6-1. Though at times the game was closer than the final score would indicate. Norway carried the play for portions of the game, and Ryan Miller stood on his head in net for us to give us a win. Going into Sundays game against Canada we will have to be a much better team

Riley Cote was Mic'd Up
Who knew that Riley Cote was Mic'd Up during the game that would provide what will possibly be the highlight of his career. Probably everyone - but I didn't. And if you didn't either then take a look at this clip. The fact that Cote's featured at least twice as many times as the Lightning player is either a result of his wonderful personality or the amount of time he spent on the bench:
For those of you that forgot Rockin' Riles was even on the team he has another year left on his contract. Wonder what will become of him. Never forget:
Maybe first and last, Jim Jackson.
