A Closer Look At The Flyers At The Break
Now that the Flyers have pushed their way into the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference standings, the biggest issue confronting the team is a familiar one – goaltending. Ray Emery, signed last summer to a one-year, $1.5 million contract, is hoping three weeks off the ice cures the hip pain that forced him out of the lineup in mid-January. But even if Emery is healthy, will Peter Laviolette turn to him or to emergency starter Michael Leighton, who has been a revelation since the Flyers plucked him off the waiver wire in mid-December? Conventional wisdom tells you Laviolette will reward Leighton, who has gone 12-3-1 with the Flyers, the starting job and work Emery (16-11-1) into the lineup if Leighton falters. General manager Paul Holmgren has stated he would like to begin negotiations on a contract extension with Emery, but that might be a hollow promise considering Emery’s bouts with abdominal and hip injuries. Despite the questions between the pipes the Flyers are unlikely to acquire a goalie before the trade deadline.

A Closer Look At The Flyers At The Break
About last night…

Dear Montreal Canadiens, Look, I think we left things last night on the wrong foot. It was a good hockey game, no one can argue that. But the end of the third period, just wasn't how we wanted to end things. Thankfully we don't have to wait long to make amends. You seemed pretty upset at a few of us last night, and I just wanted to clear the air before the puck drops tonight up at your barn. It looked like you were pissed at D. Powerhouse for, you know, playing hockey.

Ha ha ha. WOW! From Mike “The Loon” Boone over at HabsInsideOut.com: There’s not a franchise in sports I hate more than the Philadlphia Flyers. Not the Toronto Maple Leafs. Not the New York Yankees. Not the Dallas Cowboys or L.A. Lakers. No, you’d have to have an Olympic Games flashback to 1936 and watch the pride of Hitler’s Germany marching

Flyers hang on to beat Habs, 3-2

It looked like it was going to be a rout at Wachovia Center. Or at least that’s what we thought; however, the Philadelphia managed to beat the Montreal Canadiens for their third straight win, 3-2. With the Olympic break just hours away, the Flyers showed their primed to head into the break on winning ways. Michael Leighton was once again superb between the pipes stopping 23 shots on his way to winning his third straight game to improve his record to 11-3-1 as a Flyer. The flood gates looked to be opening when the Flyers were on cruise control with a 3-0 lead until yet another goal deflected off a one of their players skate. Former Flyer Glen Metropolit took a shot that bounced off Danny Briere’s skate at 2:05 of the third period. Jeff Carter seemed to get the scoring started when he poked in a scrambling puck until replays show that Scott Hartnell was the last player to get a piece of the puck as it passed Carey Price. Hartnell stands by his opinion that Carter should have been credited with the goal
