Meltzer's Musings: 3-22-10
The news that Jeff Carter will miss 3-4 weeks with a non-displaced foot fracture is just one more hurdle in what has been an exceptionally frustrating season for the Flyers. As I wrote in yesterday's game preview, the Flyers are lucky that the Eastern Conference is so mediocre. If the conference were as deep as the West, the club would probably wind up missing the playoffs this season. As it i

Carter out 3 to 4 weeks with fractured foot
Flyers leading scorer Jeff Carter will miss the next 3 to 4 weeks with a non-displaced fracture of the navicular bone in his left foot, general manager Paul Holmgren announced today at the Skate Zone in Voorhees. Carter, who leads the Flyers with 33 goals and 60 points, blocked a shot by Atlanta Thrashers left wing Clarke MacArthur in the first period of Sunday night's 3-1 loss. He played the remainder of the game with the help of anti-inflammatories but when pain persisted through Sunday night, he underwent an X-ray and an MRI, the second of which showed a non-displaced fracture near the arch of his left foot. "If he gets to the point where he can deal with the pain he'll probably be able to play," Holmgren said. "But we're just guessing right now of at least three to four weeks. Jeff's a tough kid and when he can come back and play he will. Obviously, we're not going to put him in a position to injure himself further." With three weeks remaining in the regular season the Flyers are hoping to have Carter back in the lineup sometime during the first round of the playoffs, if they are able to reach them

Photo: Yahoo Sports When things can’t get any worse for the Flyers after losing their home-and-home series against Atlanta, they find out the next day that their most elite scorer will miss 3-4 with a non-displaced fracture in his foot. That would be Jeff Carter. Carter who leads the Flyers in goals and points will miss the next 3-4 weeks with what really is a broken foot, per GM Paul Holmgren. More coming……..

No, the Flyers have not lost Ryan Miller and his back up Ilya Bryzgalov, but they have lost their top two goalies. Something any team in the league would have difficulty coping with. So the Flyers have a bit of a situation on their hands. Regardless of the fact that two of the goals the Thrashers scored last night were weak, Boucher saved 90% of the Thrashers shots. While he's not going to steal any games for the Flyers it appears he can perform reasonably. So the question is 'now what do you do?' Here's what you do - you block shots, give up less shots, and score more goals

Goaltending Isn’t The Only Problem

If I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard some hockey pundit opine the Flyers “need a goaltender that can steal them a game or two,” I could probably have a pretty good night down in Atlantic City. Hookers included. The game stealer is a constant meme whenever there’s discussion about what exactly it is

Flyers Looking Forward to Opening Day
I think we're all a little depressed about last night's outcome. But maybe '20 year old man seeking woman' had better luck than the 1/4 million Flyers fans who cued up their work week with a little Sunday night disappointment. Maybe he got felated. Or maybe they popped some E and watched this over and over again:
During the month of March the Flyers are 5-5-2. Not nearly as bad as a team like the Rangers, but you don't often get very far in life comparing yourself to monster.com applicants when you're obviously a ladders.com prize. 500 hockey is not going to cut it. They know it, we know it, our parents know that we and they know it. Even worse is that we're 2-4-1 in our last 7.
