Is Carey Price the Flyers next ONE?

Goaltending by committee has been the m.o. or the Philadelphia Flyers ever since Ron Hextall left the club. Is is something they planned? Of course not. However, it seems like a position the franchise doesn’t put a whole lot of stock into. When you look over the storied history of Flyers you can only name four goaltenders that have been notable; Bernie Parent, Pelle Lindbergh, and Ron Hextall. That’s about it. Maybe its about that time

Mega Millions or This?

Hey cheese nuts. This is the last week of t-shirt Thursday. This week we're offering up 3 shirts and they all look like that beauty right up there. All you have to do is send the names of 3 forwards and 2 defensemen to [email protected] Oh yeah, and guess how many goals you think the Flyers will score (not the entire score of the game like previous weeks). Voting opens Thursday afternoon when Fran-o's cocaine fueled game day post goes up. We'll repost the rules then too.

Carcillo Hearing Coming

The Flyers confirm the TSN report earlier today that bad boy Dan Carcillo had another hearing with Colin Campbell. Twelve o'clock high. No B-17s for air support, either. At least he won't have to drive to New York City. It will be done on the phone with Campbell in Toronto. Anyway, I began to wonder yesterday when Campbell would not discuss whether any supplementary discipline would be

Flyers Goal Scored By Hits NBC

I am proud to say that we are now colleagues with Tina Fey and Liz Lemon. Fran did a write up for NBC's Pro Hockey Talk, a 'new' hockey blog from one of the big boys, where we were asked to relay to the rest of the world who our greatest source of frustration is. I wrote an 8 page essay on Nancy Pelosi. Fran pointed out that they meant on the Flyers. And he hit them up with this award winning piece . And even though the boys at NBC missed the first quotation mark in Danny Briere's opening quote we'll just go ahead and throw it in right....here: "

Mike Richards – Getting Screwed by Everyone

Photo:

Of the top 30 scoring centers in the NHL only two guys have more goals than they have assists: the unstoppable Steve Stamkos and the Red Baron Shoot-First-Ask-Questions-Later Jeff Carter. And that's why if I'm the 24th highest scoring center in the league, also known as Mike Richards, I'm not terribly happy with the structure of our offensive talent. Because I've mainly been an apple man all my life. Mike Richards is no Adam Oates or Craig Janney. He's not an incredible set up center who's always finding that open winger and putting the puck right on his tape. But during the previous two seasons 63% of his points have been assists. This year his point total is down significantly while he's only two goals from tying his career high.

Flyers catch a break, Thrashers, Bruins lose

The Flyers woke up in sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings this morning breathing a little easier. That's because the ninth-place Thrashers and eighth-place Bruins both lost last night. Both teams play again tonight, Atlanta in Toronto and the Bruins in Jersey, but neither can catch the Flyers. That means the race for the final three spots in the East looks like this: Team Points Wins Games Remaining 6 Flyers 82 38 6 7 Canadiens 82 37 6 8 Bruins 80 34 7 9 Thrashers 78 33 6 Right now the Flyers' magic number is 8 points because the best the Thrashers can finish is with 90 points. But for every loss the Thrashers are handed, the Flyers' magic number is reduced by two. So if Atlanta loses tonight in Toronto, the Flyers' magic number will drop to six, meaning they'd need just three wins in their final six games to clinch a playoff spot.

Twist of fate: Flyers stomp Marty and the Devils, 5-1

Photo:

Getty Images It’s pretty amazing when you think about, actually. For years there was one team the Philadelphia Flyers couldn’t beat and, they were the New Jersey Devils. Now, it’s the Pittsburgh Penguins who Philly cannot defeat and its the Devils who the Flyers now own. The Flyers beat down the Devils last night 5-1 from the Wachovia Center, snapping their five-game losing streak. Brian Boucher, who has been maligned excessively as of late, showed up and played a stellar game between the pipes to secure a win. It was a win that came after the captain Mike Richards held a closed-door meeting where he and the leadership group of the team talked to their teammates. The words of wisdom from Richards and others must have paid dividends, it showed on the ice through the determination and heart the Flyers showed beating New Jersey.
