Philadelphia Flyers @ Pittsburgh Penguins 3/27/10
PREVIEW (8:45 AM) The struggling Flyers are in desperate need of some positives right now as they head home to face the New Jersey Devils at the Wachovia Center tonight. The Devils haven't exactly been setting the league on fire in the last two months but they remain tied with the Penguins for the top spot in the Atlantic Division. New Jersey is coming off a 4-2 win over Montreal last night.

Flyers Prospect Amber Alert
Flyers vs. Penguins. The last game in that godforsaken place known as Mellon Arena. A reeling Flyers club set to do battle with their arch-nemesis. Saturday kicks off in spectacular fashion with a 1pm meeting of these two rivals. For a team that can't seem to buy a victory against the scrubs of the West & East, Philly is hoping some bad blood and interstate competition will shake the dust off their orange afros. The best test is against a good team, and thats what we have here today. If the Flyers cannot prove that they can hang with Pittsburgh for 60 minutes in a hostile barn, then what business do we have competing for Lord Stanley? Today all the bullshit ends and the questions start getting answered. This is it, the fucking climax of the movie. Where we find out that Verbal is Keyzer. Where Vader is Luke's dad. The 2009-2010 season has been built up to this weekend. Against the two top teams in the Atlantic, our season will be defined in how well we play against these two clubs. First up, the defending champs against Johan Backlund. Yes, our Phantoms goalie is making his first career start in Mellon Arena.Â

PREVIEW (8 AM) Barely clinging on to the seventh playoff seed in the Eastern Conference, the Flyers begin a challenging weekend set today that will see them play a matinee in Pittsburgh today before returning home to play the New Jersey Devils tomorrow night. If there's a ray of hope for the Flyers it's that the club has won a game in Pittsburgh this season and has fared well in the season seri

Photo: LIFE Like the ol’ saying persists, drastic times call for drastic decisions. For the Philadelphia Flyers and head coach Peter Laviolette, the decision looms within the goaltending issue. Johan Backlund, 28, of Sweden will get his first NHL start tomorrow for the Flyers when they visit the Pittsburgh Penguins. The recent relapse of starter Brian Boucher has caused Laviolette to finally make the change. Although, with just eight precious games remaining, a ongoing goalie issue is something the Flyers don’t want heading into the postseason. If they actually make it to that point. Backlund has been a reliable netminder for the Phantoms this season playing 41 games with a 21-17-2 record.
