Down Like the Titanic

Last night saw a pathetic effort. I was impressed with the way the team played in the first period and who wouldn't be. But this was like the rest of the season it started out with so much hope only to see our dreams crushed in the end. After reading a few articles this morning we might be like the might Titanic in our efforts for a cup this season. Picked to the the Cup winner at the beginning of the season but not able to seal the deal.

The Mike Richards Captaincy: When Leading By Example Sucks

Photo:

After blowing a 3-1 lead in the third period, the Flyers surrendered a crucial point in the standings last night with a galling 4-3 overtime loss to the Minnesota Wild. Win-less in their last 4 games, the Flyers have looked more like a collection of players battling for April tee times rather than a team trying

Change In Goal?

Can you sense the unrest in Flyerdom? If so, then why are so many people in denial here about what has to be done if the Flyers are going to have chance to pull out of this slump? Or make the playoffs. Or have a chance to win a round, if they do? As bad as this team has looked lately, since Dallas, there is also the obvious that no one wants to address: it's time for a change in goal.

Flyers One Point Closer to First Round Exit

The good news first - Sarah W, our first female winner, absolutely wrecked the competition last night with the winning team of Lappy-Betts-Powe up front and Parent-Bartulis manning the blue line. That was the biggest point garnering goal since Joffrey Lupul earned me double rewards on my BoA card against the Caps. Shoot us an email with your size and choice and we'll get moving on that. The bad news second, third, forth and fifth - I'm intrigued by…is it BMW or Audi or, either way….I'm intrigued by that commercial where everyone's naming what they want like they're soulless zombies who have been told what they want, not because they decided for themselves. The little kid is like 'I've been told I want a red sports car…' You know the one. Because I was trying to think of some positives from last night's game and I only came up with one, and I realized I only say it because everyone else does

Time to give Backlund a shot?

Could Johan Backlund be the next answer between the pipes in Philadelphia? With the Flyers in the midst of a four-game losing streak and their playoff hopes fading by the day, the Flyers may consider turning to 28-year-old rookie Johan Backlund to save their season. After imploding in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night, a game the Flyers led 3-1 after two periods, Boucher has fallen to 1-3-1 since replacing Michael Leighton as the Flyers’ starter. And with a crucial weekend looming with games in Pittsburgh on Saturday and at home Sunday night against the Devils, there is a distinct possibility coach Peter Laviolette will turn to the unproven Swede to rescue the Flyers from themselves. Backlund has yet to play a single minute in the NHL. In 41 appearances with the AHL Adirondack Phantoms this season Backlund has gone 21-17-2 with a 2.79 GAA and .906 save percentage. He is on a one-year contract and the Flyers would like to see if he’s worth keeping around next season

Early Golf Season?

Photo:

The Flyers have been on a downward path the past week or so. With key injuries to goaltender Michael Leighton and top-scorer Jeff Carter, this team’s path to the playoffs will be anything but easy. Currently sitting in 7th place, they are barely hanging onto a playoff spot with Boston breathing down their

Falling

The Flyers are falling in the Eastern Conference due in large part to injuries and a lack of consistent play. Going into the Olympic break the Flyers were consistent in their play and were able to dominate the game like everyone expected. However, this was a short lived period of time when coming out of the break and slightly after the trade deadline we find out Emery is gone for the season. Then the savior in goal gets hurt for the remainder of the season and now our top scorer goes down. It is a lot to overcome.
