Carter to have screw inserted in left foot

The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that center Jeff Carter will undergo surgery on his left foot on Friday, Mar. 26 and is still expected to be out three to four weeks, according to club General Manager Paul Holmgren. “He will have a screw inserted to aide the healing process,” said Holmgren. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Steve Raikin at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Carter Will Have Surgery

Strange turn of events here ... Now FLyers say Jeff Carter will have surgery for the fracture in his left foot ... BUT ... the time frame for his recovery remains 3-4 weeks. Then why didn't he have surgery sooner? And if the time frame is the same, why does inserting a screw not change things in some way?

Flyers Gameday: Wild desires

Tonight the artists formerly known as the Philadelphia Flyers take on the despondent Minnesota Wild. Tonight, just like every game since Christmas, is gigantic. The Wild are clinging to the idea of the playoffs while the Flyers are clinging to a playoff bid. Two clubs that would club a seal for two points meet in Souf Philly for what will be a low-scoring, intense game. I think the last off season tricked me a bit. I honestly expected the Flyers to be able to enter a game like this, against a lesser opponent and thoroughly control the entire game. If I had to predict tonight's game in October, I'd say Flyers win 4-1. But that hasn't been the case yet this year

NHLPA supports new rule on blindside hits

Toronto (March 25, 2010): Statement from NHLPA Executive Board regarding the League's blindside hits to the head proposal: “We fully support our Competition Committee Members’ endorsement of the League’s proposal to implement supplemental discipline this season for blindside hits to the head. Our agreement applies to the remainder of the 2009-10 NHL Regular Season, as well as the 2010 Playoffs. This temporary implementation will ensure that the joint NHLPA/NHL Competition Committee will have time to develop and consider a proper and full-time rule, one that includes an on-ice penalty component, this summer. We are encouraged by the League’s recent willingness to explore on-ice rule changes as a means of reducing Player injuries and have no doubt that by working together, a safer working environment can be established for all NHLPA Members.”
