Meltzer's Musings: 4-27-10

I'm still in awe of Jaroslav Halak's performance last night in Game 6 of the Montreal-Washington series. How could anyone NOT be? When I write a blog or article, I try whenever possible to tackle a topic that there aren't already scores of other columns being written about. But in this case, it feels silly to talk about anything else this morning. So, yes, today's Daily Drop at Versus.com says

In line waiting to enter an order for a tuna Shorti at Wawa, Darroll Powe notices Claude Giroux picking up a Classic meatball sub just in time to turn away, but not in time to not be noticed by Giroux. 28: Darroll? Darroll Powe? Hey man! How's it going? 36: Oh Claude! What's going on man? How's it been? 28: Good Darroll

First Round Wrap-Up

Alright so after a few days I’ve been able to collect my thoughts as I enter my last week of classes for the semester. Like many other Flyers Phaithful, I have been going nuts waiting for the second round to start. Never been a huge fan of teams having too much idle time, even if

Gagne, Flyers share different views on return

Flyers left wing Simon Gagne said today he'll remain on crutches for 10 more days and could return to the lineup near the end of the second round or for the start of the third round of the playoffs. Flyers GM Paul Holmgren said Gagne will undergo an MRI on Friday and if he's healing as expected, he could be skating as early as later the same day, which would make him available for Game 3 or 4 of the conference semifinals. For more, check out tomorrow's Courier-Post. Meanwhile, Ian Laperriere skipped another practice with what Holmgren described as unclear vision. According to Holmgren Laperriere's eye was hit by Paul Martin's slapshot in the series-clinching Game 5 on Thursday night in Jersey and the winger is having some issues with his vision that the doctors feel will clear over time. Laperriere will be evaluated again tomorrow.

Meltzer's Musings: 4-26-10

Like the rest of you, I'm going nuts waiting for the Flyers second round series to arrive. While anything is possible, I don't foresee Montreal winning the next two games to upset Washington. The Caps just have too much firepower and the two games Montreal has won have been games that Jaroslav Halak stole for his team. Regardless of which team the Flyers play in the second round, they are goin

Waiting on Washington

Photo:

Two years ago life as a Flyers fans was exciting, if I remember it correctly. We had gone from worst to 6th in the East in one short year. Not quite a turn around as dramatic as the Coyotes are continuing to pull off this season, but impressive none the less. Two years ago somewhere around this time of year we were getting ready to face our first playoff opponent since 2006, and now we're getting ready to face our first playoff opponent since last week - both the Washington Capitals. If the Caps ever decide to finish off the Habs (tonight in Montreal) one half of the Eastern Conference Finals will feature a Philadelphia - Washington matchup that might hearken back to 2008.

Flyers potential second round opponents

With the Penguins eliminating the Senators, the Flyers second round opponents have become a little clearer. Just a little.

If the Capitals who are up 3 games to 2 finish off the Canadiens then the Flyers will face the Caps.

If Montreal is able to come back and take the series then it gets a little murky. The Flyers would then play either Pittsburgh or Boston. Boston is up 3 games to 2 against the Sabres in their series. If Boston holds on and takes the series then the Flyers would play Boston. If the Sabres come back and take the series the Flyers would play the Penguins.
