Laperriere Willing to Trade Pain for Victory
Photo:
(Newark, NJ) - There's just one thing that motivates Philadelphia Flyers forward Ian Laperriere more then wins, and that's sacrifice. It's contagious, too. Particularly when you consider the Flyers needed one win to advance past the New Jersey ...

C-P exclusive: Laperriere may need surgery
Just got off the phone with Paul Holmgren and he's awaiting word on whether veteran right wing Ian Laperriere will need surgery to repair the damage done to his right eye last night. "There's a chance he'll need to have something done," Holmgren told me. Laperriere blocked a shot by Paul Martin early in the third period and there is a possible fracture of his orbital bone, above his right eye. If there is a break in the orbital bone, Laperriere could need to have a plate inserted to provide stability. Laperriere needed between 60 and 70 stitches to close the cut he sustained above his right eyebrow. He has vowed to wear a shield when he returns and for the remainder of his career

Flyers Win the Series. Kind of Surprising But Also Not.
Photo:
Ha ha ha. Joke's over. In some elaborate scheme someone, someone very clever, made it seem like the Flyers beat the Devils in 5 games to be the first team into the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. They made it appear like the Flyers split the Devils home ice advantage like a walnut and then won three games in a row by the combined score of 10-3. They also made it seem as if the Flyers won the last game 3-0 with a goalie who hasn't been in the playoffs for…well I can't remember the exact number of years because I've only read it 724 places, not 725… a goalie who is old and crusty and basically dead, as well as while missing two of their better forwards. It's been a very entertaining alternate reality, but I'd like to be clued in to what actually happened. Flyers lose in 7? Win in 7 maybe

Meltzer's Musings: 4-23-10
Conventional hockey wisdom says that teams can't flip the "on" switch and start playing at the type of level it takes to succeed in the postseason. While some will say that's what the Flyers have done, in reality the Flyers elevated their game in all but one of their final five regular season games leading into the postseason. A couple of times -- a 1-0 loss to Montreal and a hard-fought loss

Coach Laviolette postgame press conference April 22
Peter Laviolette reacts to the 3-0 Game 5 victory over New Jersey, clinching the first round series win.
Pre Game 5 Quotes: Peter Laviolette
PETER LAVIOLETTE The mood is good. We’re in a position to win a hockey game and move on and better our chances of winning the Stanley Cup. It’s a big game, we get a chance to eliminate. We worked hard to get to this point and we’re in a good position. We haven’t relied on one person to get us to this point. There’s been lots of opportunities throughout the course of the year to step up. A guy like Boosh has answered the bell. This is a great opportunity for guys coming into the lineup or guys who want to take on a bigger role.

Who’s In for Tonight?
Photo:
As I said yesterday, Simon Gagne and Jeff Carter will be out tonight. Shortly after I made that post, most of you guys probably figured out from the Flyers official site that Gagne would be out about 3 weeks, and Carter is out indefinitely. A huge blow to our team. There goes

They Said It …
NEWARK, N.J. There have been a couple of precious quotes in this series. You have to get your daily dose of Jacques Lemaire because he is so much fun. I asked him today at the morning skates whether his Devils got an emotional lift yesterday when they found out that Jeff Carter and Simon Gagne are done for this series. “I thought it was bullshit, as a matter of fact,†Lemaire told
