Laliberte to play on Flyers’ top line

If Thursday morning's pre-game skate is any indication, rookie right wing David Laliberte will play on a top line with center Mike Richards and left wing Dan Carcillo tonight when the Flyers try to finish off the Devils in Game 5 here at the Prudential Center. Flyers fans have been invited to watch the game at the Wachovia Center, where parking and entry is free. Right wing Ville Leino practiced on a second line with center Danny Briere and left wing Scott Hartnell. Flyers coach Peter Laviolette left the third and fourth lines alone, keeping center Claude Giroux with LW James van Riemsdyk and RW Arron Asham, and keeping C Blair Betts with LW Darroll Powe and RW Ian Lapperriere.

The battle for Lord Stanley's hardware continues tonight, as the suddenly depleted Flyers look to finish off the Devils on their home ice. The Flyers have looked in control for the majority of this series, regardless of the massive amounts of penalties being called in the first four games. With the crowd behind them, the Flyers took a commanding lead in this series by winning both games at home. Game 4, in particular, saw a Devils team simply give up. Thanks to Puck Daddy for spotting this...Something that fired up their coach to, I shit you not, throw a jar of jelly at the wall .

Flyers Injuries Unfortunate, Not Devastating

2 years ago, back when Fran and I lived in a Dude Den, a roommate finally asked why Fran and I kept coming back to the apartment every other night at 10:30, smelling like 2-for-1 Brooklyn Lager. When we told him we had been watching the Flyers make an improbable playoff run for almost a month he wanted in. We had always just figured anyone who wasn't interested in hockey by there 20's wasn't going to be, but were excited to possibly convert a new fan - the same excitement I assume Christian Missionaries felt when they would conquer a new village and kill all the men. So during game 5 of the Canadiens series, a game that ended with a Mike Knuble empty netter and a hand shake, we tried to impart the basics on this new Flyers fan. Our goalie was pretty good. Number 20 is playing out of his mind. The buffalo wings here are decent.

Flyers Playoff Gameday: Game 5 vs. Devils

Mini-Preview (7:30 AM) The Flyers will look to close out their first-round series tonight when they travel to Newark to take on the Atlantic Division champion New Jersey Devils. The task became more difficult with the news that the club has lost both Jeff Carter and Simon Gagne for the remainder of the series (and, in Carter's case, quite possibly for the rest of the playoffs). However, the

Paul Holmgren Transcript on Injuries

Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren “Both Simon and Jeff will have surgeries done on Friday by Dr. Steven Raikin at the Riverview Surgery Center located in the Navy Yard in Philadelphia. Simon is going to have to have two screws put into his right big toe. This process will probably expedite the healing a little bit for Simon, and possible recovery time, we’re looking at maybe getting him back in the lineup in three weeks. Jeff Carter will have a plate inserted into the shaft of his metatarsal of the second toe on his right foot. This is a little bit more delicate process and Jeff will have to be on crutches for approximately six weeks.” Q: You said six weeks for Carter on crutches – is he done for the playoffs? “Well, he’s on crutches for six weeks, and six weeks from now would put us in the Finals, so I would think so. We’ll remain optimistic to that point, but that’s obviously a long shot given that he won’t have skated in that timeframe.” Q: How do you expect your team to react to this on the ice
