Knowing the Enemy

Vince Vaughn might pray to them, but these 'Hawks are not Gods. (Courtesy: YardBarker) The scary, speedy, mighty Chicago Blackhawks are facing the poor, overmatched Philadelphia Flyers in the Stanley Cup Finals.  Yeah, ok!.  These ‘Hawks are very good, but let’s cut them down a bit. They’re not superhuman, and they should not be feared. Fear is often based on the unknown. We don’t know these ‘Hawks very well, but we can see their path of destruction as they tore apart the Western Conference.  Well, it’s time to put some fears to rest, and learn about who these guys are that play in the Windy City. Jonathan Toews -- The Captain, their leader, the top scorer in these playoffs

Richards vs. Toews: Stanley Cup’s historic matchup

Photo:

Both are one the best captains in the NHL, two of the top stars in the entire league, were linemates in the 2010 Olympics for the Gold medal winning team Canada. They are Blackhawks Jonathan Toews and Flyers’ Mike Richards. Of all the interesting matchups leading into Saturday nights game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals, Richards vs. Toews is probably the most anticipated. Both captains of their respective franchise were given the ‘C’ at young ages. Richards was 23-years old, and Toews was the third youngest player to ever grace the leadership role at only 20-years old. Richards, who has become one of the NHL’s top clutch performers over the past two years, has really come into his own since he won Gold in Vancouver back in February

Blackhawkers

People like to trash talk Philly fans. We're raucous, we're crude, we throw batteries at grandmas and punch babies. Even though we don't riot like those French-Canadians do, we're still the scum of the earth. TSN has even forayed to describe the rabid fan bases of the two cities in an article  today . So I figured it's a good time to look across the battleline and see what Chi-town's 'best and brightest' will have to offer throughout this Stanley Cup Finals. I grew up watching some epic battles between the Blackhawks and the North Stars. I remember having to stay up to the wee hours of the morning after repeated bench clearing brawls. My mom wasn't happy, but my step-dad was in heaven.

Stanley Cup Finals: Team Defense

Team defense and goaltending are what wins in the playoffs. The 2010 Stanley Cup Finals pits two teams that have played outstanding team defense through most of the postseason. Chicago played excellent team D during the regular season as well, while the Flyers took some time to get used to Peter Laviolette's version of the left-wing lock and then took a step backward again after the Olympic brea

Who Are These Guys? – Dave Bolland

Photo:

The Blackhawks have a star studded lineup with Kane, Toews, Hossa, Sharp, Keith, Seabrook, and Eager, but they also have a number of faceless role players. These are the guys that do their jobs well enough to allow those other guys to score goals - their version of Betts, Asham, and Krajicek. We'll be profiling these nameless, faceless, assless workers all week. #36 Dave Bolland - Center You will know Dave Bolland, if he ever gets traded to an Eastern Conference team. And maybe even if he doesn't. He's going to turn 24 next week and is a burgeoning star. He's a different type of player, but his 47 points as a 22 year old on the Blackhawks in 2008-09 are the same exact number of points our 22 year old Claude Giroux had this year. If it weren't for the back surgery that caused him to miss 1/2 of the season this year you can bet your trailer that he would have improved on that total
