Danny’s Diary: “An amazing ride”

Today, Flyers center Danny Briere talks about how the excitement he and his sons are feeling leading into the biggest game of his life: Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals: My eye is doing fine and it won't affect me. My vision wasn't affected, it was just a matter of keeping ice on it so it wouldn't swell and it's good for tonight. The two oldest boys (Caelan and Carson) thought it was cool, the youngest (9-year-old Cameron) didn't like it as much and my Mom didn't like that as well. But it's not the first time, they're kind of used to it. I have to say these last couple weeks you spend so much energy and time and thoughts on what we've been working on to get to this point that it's easy to drift off. But with all the excitement of what's ahead of us tonight and hopefully Friday, it's also good to have something else to do. To go play with your kids, to read a book, to stay busy so you're not constantly thinking about hockey

Game 6, You Ready?

Let's hope the Cup DOES NOT make an appearance tonight. (Courtesy: ScrapeTV.com) Finally, Wednesday is upon us. Finally, we get to see if the Flyers push the series to the limit, or if the Blackhawks become Stanley Cup Champions. And if you’re a true hockey fan, even if you hate the Flyers , why would you not want a Game 7? The Super Bowl is popular because it’s winner-take-all. Game 7’s, in my opinion, are better! Not only do you get the win-or-go-home result, but you also get the build up to it. You get teams that know, and probably hate, each other

Eisen/Lane Emails as Kopecky/Kane Much Funnier

Brought to you by the Chicago Tribune, the emails of the biggest scandal in the past century between some woman who was a news anchor in Philadelphia and some bald guy that used to be on ESPN, as if they were texts sent between Chicago's Patrick Kane and Tomas Kopecky: …... In his subject heading, Kopecky asks, "What's going on" and continues in the e-mail "With my favorite Queen bee." Kane: "was thinking about you. I'm good Just really busy.... and TIRED! HOW 'BOUT YOU? COMING TO PHILLY EVER?" Kopecky: "The closest I'm coming to Philly is two days in Pittsburgh next month. Wanna meet and create a scandal?" About one month later, Kopecky greets Patrick on Nov. 24, 2006, with "Happy Thanksgiving, hottie." He tries to get Kane to meet him in Pittsburgh in two weeks. Kane: "lol.

Briere treats kids to tickets for Game 6!

Press Release: Danny Briere has one of the biggest games of his life tonight. Preparation includes strict concentration and countless practice hours. But in addition to all the hype and excitement felt by this popular NHL star, Briere couldn’t help but of think of children in need. “I’ve been extremely lucky,” began Briere, “I am doing what I love to do, and playing in a series every hockey player dreams of. I wanted to share this moment, not only with my friends and family, but with a few kids that are in a need of a reason to smile!” So, with that in mind, Briere arranged for three children who are being treated for cancer at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, to attend Game 6 tonight in a luxury suite. The children, ages 2, 11 and 17, will be joined by their families and Danny Briere’s parents. This act of charity is nothing new to Briere, nor is helping kids with cancer

Who Starts in Net for the Flyers?

The great debate rages on. (Courtesy: YardBarker) Only in Philadelphia . Only the Flyers . Who else, in the Stanley Cup Finals , facing elimination, would have a goalie controversy like this? Down in the series 3-2, we still have no idea who will be in net for the Flyers in Game 6.

Who's Your Emergency Defenseman?

One aspect of Peter Laviolette's job as head coach is to put the lineup that best enables the Flyers to win on the bench every night. Well, not every night, on game nights. If he is making those guys get dressed up every night and sit on the bench than that's a different discussion. But, on game nights, Lavy has to dress the collective group of players that is most likely to win. Which is why I'm not entirely sure that the Flyers should dress 13 forwards even though I was adamant about it yesterday.
