Rumors Are Greatly Exaggerated

Chris Pronger had one bad game.  People who only days ago shouting his praises to the world (I'm talking to you PuckDaddy), now seem to think his career is over and he should hang up the skates. Give me a break. The reality is, even though Dustin Byfuglien had a four point night in game five, the only time he's lit the lamp when Pronger was on the ice is that open netter at the end of the game... and he quickly dumped that shot away before Chris pwnd him again on the open ice. I don't care what anyone says about last game.  One good hit by the Buff-oon doesn't mean that Pronger still doesn't completely own the guy

Meltzer's Musings: 6-8-10

There are no inklings yet about whether Peter Laviolette will separate Jeff Carter and Mike Richards in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final. The team had the entire day off yesterday. It's a lock that Laviolette will be asked about the lines today, and an equal lock that he will refuse to say anything. I am of the opinion that the change is overdue. When Carter gets into one of his funks, the slum

Flyers miss start of game 5

Apparently, the Flyers didn't get the memo that the game started at 7:00 Central time and the 8:00 pm start was for the Eastern time zone. Once they showed up the game was a game of traded chances that the Flyers would have won if not for an empty netter. Ville has been the best player in this series a night after Pronger didn't show up either. Pronger has been great all series long and now he is making jokes about winning the Master's. While I like the lose style it certainly doesn't make me proud of the play on the ice. He had his worst game of the season at the wrong time

Flyers miss start of game 5

For Game 4, last Friday night, the Flyers pressured the Blackhawks and played their so-called “A” game and made me feel good about being a Flyers fan; at one point in the third period, there was a three-goal Flyers lead. On toward the end of the game, the expected crud started to show through the veneer; the Flyers let up a little, the Blackhawks started to get back into it in the last half of

Were the Flyers Just Happy to be There?

You know what just occurred to me? That I wasn't that excited for last night's game. I mean, I wanted to watch it. But I wasn't on edge like I was for Game 3 and I wasn't riding a super-high like I was for Game 4. I was just happy that it was 2-2. I distinctly remember thinking multiple times that it was ok if the Flyers lost because they had already come back from 0-2 and tied it, relieving the real pressure of the situation. Is there a chance that on some level they felt that too? I'm not saying it would ever be nearly as blatant as this but didn't it look like there was a hint of 'well, this isn't a MUST-win.'

Danny’s Diary: On his eye, Flyers’ chances

In today's diary, Flyers center Danny Briere shares his thoughts on Game 5, his eye injury and the Flyers' chances in Game 6: I was a little shaken and a little swollen in the face, but overall I'm not too bad. It was a faceoff and I was trying to go to the net and Duncan Keith tried to take me out and take my stick away and I guess he missed my stick and his blade came under my visor and hit me just under my right eye. At first I was a little scared because on impact I couldn't see right away and then the blood started coming out. I got a little scared that it was directly in the eye. Once we found out it was under the eye, which is fine, the cut was glued so I could go back on the ice right away and we took care of it after the game with a few stitches. Obviously, it should have been a penalty but the game is fast and it goes both ways. But if you take their defenseman off the ice for four minutes that certainly would have been a big advantage.
