Inside the Flyers’ 7-4 loss in Game 5

Flyers coach Peter Laviolette has his biggest decision of the post-season on his lap and he’s got two whole days to make it. After pulling Michael Leighton for the second time in five games in Sunday night’s 7-4 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals, Laviolette was asked who his goaltender would be when the series resumes Wednesday night in Philadelphia. Leighton? Or backup-turned-starter-turned backup Brian Boucher. “I don't have an answer for that,” Laviolette said. And so, let the speculation begin

Meltzer's Musings: 6-7-10

The story of Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final can be told in three parts. In Part 1, the Chicago Blackhawks came out with their skating legs going and their forecheck cranked to a fever pitch in the first period. Michael Leighton gave his team a chance to weather the storm with several difficult saves but the Hawks kept coming in waves. Philly kills a penalty successfully but draws no momentum f

Flyers "Juiced" Up?

CHICAGO _ So why have the Flyers been so loose all through the playoffs? I was telling Peter Laviolette and some of the players today that I could remember in the not-so-distant past how uptight the club was in past years, even in a series they were leading. This Stanley Cup Final is tied, 2-2 but you'd think the Flyers were ahead and the Blackhawks were behind given the difference between

Looks Like It's Video Sunday

I just keep poking around the internet for more hockey today. I can't help it. And I know you've probably never heard of the Flyers official website (a little less popular than us) so I'm going to take the time to post these 3 videos that I somehow have never seen before (and a 4th I have). If you feel like getting absolutely pumped out of your mind then finish off that coffee you made this morning and take a peek: 1st Round Pre-game:   3rd Round Pre-game:   Lappy What If and Ovation:   And finally, which team would make a better addition to this commercial? Seriously:

Flyers Looking to Break Streak

If you lead, they will follow (Courtesy: YardBarker)   So the series is 2-2, but ‘Hawk fans are shaking and Flyers fans are energized. Why? Because the Flyers have looked better throughout most of the series. Because the ‘Hawks best players have done almost nothing. Because the Flyers have started to get contributions from across the board. Still, both teams have managed to defend their home territory

Flyers Playoff Gameday: Sweep the Leg

Tonight, in the most basic form, is a hockey game. Obviously if I'm still writing about hockey on June 6th, it's probably a very important game, but just a hockey game nonetheless. It's in Chicago and the two teams are at a 2-2 standstill in this best of 7 series. That's where it stops being simple, Flyers fans. Maybe I'm being an unabashed (and handsome) homer of a blogger, but even though the series is tied, this feels like the Flyers are going to win tonight, and then again on Wednesday, and start a unexpected 4 day weekend for my Orange and Black brethren. Of course, nothing is that easy. This is the Finals, and Chicago will simply not just rollover and accept a Dan Carcillo enema (gross). I fully expect Chi-town to be out in full force tonight, probably chuckin' deep dish pizzas all over the ice during warmups, while trying to sneak back into Fan Gear to return their Patrick Kane jersey they got last Thursday but never took off the price tag.

Flyers Stanley Cup Commercial

We here are big fans of the NHL's 'What if' campaign. As a matter of fact there's only two problems with it: - not enough Weezer - no It's Always Sunny intro Well, also that watching people skate backwards gives us nightmares of the Wheelers from Return to Oz. Anyway, we entered this 'commercial' into a competition of 2nd graders across the country and it came in 2nd (that tampon commericals was damn funny)! So check it out with your speakers on as loud as they go and get PUMPED UP for tonight's game 5!

Let's go fly-ERS!!
