The Flyers full schedule was released today and the beginning jumps at you since we will be hoping to christen the new Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh with the same way the Mellon Arena went out; with a big loss. I like opening on the road, and it worked well for us this past season

2010-2011 Schedule is Out

2010-2010 Season The painful 2010 playoffs are getting farther and farther away. Time heals many wounds, and there’s no better way than to start things fresh. With that, a new season is approaching, and is only 3 1/2 months away. The schedule came out today, so let’s go over some quick highlights: Season Opener: 10/7/10 -- In Pittsburgh , where we get a chance to spoil the party as Malkin and the rest of the flightless birds open their new building. Home Opener: 10/11/10 -- Colorado comes to town to witness the raising of the Eastern Conference Champions banner, among other festivities. 10/21/10 -- The  Anaheim Ducks come to Broad Street, in a match-up of the two teams that head lead the league in fighting majors for the past two seasons. 1/23/11 -- The Flyers head to Chicago for the only regular season meeting with the defending champion Blackhawks .

NHL’s 2010-11 schedule highlights

The Pittsburgh Penguins will open their new home, the CONSOL Energy Center on Thursday, Oct. 7, and the Chicago Blackhawks will raise a Stanley Cup championship banner to the United Center ceiling two nights later to highlight the inaugural weekend of the 2010-11 National Hockey League regular season. The Eastern Conference Champion Philadelphia Flyers will provide the opposition for Pittsburgh’s first regular-season game in its new arena, which seats 18,087, while the Detroit Red Wings and Blackhawks will play for the 710th time, the League’s most often-contested rivalry. Opening night Oct. 7 also features NHL Face-Off, the League’s annual North American launch event. Prior to the contest in which the Montreal Canadiens visit the Toronto Maple Leafs, a hockey and entertainment festival in Toronto will give fans the opportunity to salute the start of the season. Also that night, the Blackhawks visit the Avalanche in Colorado and the “Battle of Alberta” resumes in Edmonton with the Calgary Flames visiting the Oilers

Flyers announce 2010-11 schedule

The defending Eastern Conference Champion Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they will open their 44th season in the National Hockey League at Pittsburgh when they face off against their Atlantic Division and intra-state rival Penguins on Thursday, October 7. The Flyers will also make their 2010-11 regular season debut at the Wachovia Center against the Colorado Avalanche on Monday, October 11. The 82-game regular season will conclude at home for the Flyers on Saturday, April 9 when they face off against the New York Islanders. "We're anxious to get the season started," said Comcast-Spectacor President Peter Luukko. "We had an incredible post-season run and we want to capitalize on that momentum next season.

Meltzer's Musings: 6-21-10

If the NHLPA elects to exercise its option to inflate the salary cap by 5% for the 2010-11 season, thereby increasing the cap to the $58-59 million range, the Flyers are not going to be nearly as bad off this offseason as some in the media have reported. The club is still likely to attempt to get rid of at least one big salary among their forwards in order to prevent bumping up against the cap

Peter Forsberg, The trade that keeps on giving.

So in the end, so far, the Flyers of today now have Daniel Carcillo, Scott Hartnell, Kimmo Timonen, Dan Hamhuis, and Kevin Marshall under contract as a result of trading Peter Forsberg to the Nashville Preditors for 2 months worth of hockey. The Predators are better to us than the Phantoms are. I'm really excited about this trade - obviously assuming that the Flyers can lock Hamhuis down for Mike Rathje-like money before he would hit the open market next week. We were big supporters of the Flyers trying to get this kid before the trade deadline, and he seems like a perfect fit for our blueline. He's already played with the rest of our Nashville core for 3 years down in Tennessee and played two years of juniors with Blair Betts a lifetime ago in Prince George of the WHL. I think the one word most people who have seen him play over the past couple years would use to describe him is 'steady.' Which is exactly what the Flyers need to keep adding to their roster if they hope to rise to the top of the Eastern Conference as a consistently difficult team to play against for an entire season, instead of a perennial post-season Cinderella.
