Some New Faces at Flyers Rookie Camp

Photo:

The Flyers roster for rookie camp came out the other day and there were a couple additions to the group that took the ice for July's fitness oriented camp. 2 forwards and 3 D-men will be joining the tightly knit group of players that wreaked havoc on Sea Isle City back in July. If you're becoming more accustomed to getting your information as concisely as possible we have 3 major junior players, a recent college grad, and what appears to be an AHL lifer joining the mix. If you want a little more info please continue reading, but you'll have to sign this waiver relieving us of any liability should you or your feelings get hurt.

Meltzer's Musings: 9-10-10

The best early news from the Flyers pre-camp workouts is that, for the second straight year, James Van Riemsdyk spent the summer focusing on adding strength and muscle to his frame. Last year, it paid off with an outstanding preseason that enabled him to make the NHL roster rather than starting the season in the AHL with the Phantoms. JVR's laid-back demeanor has led some within the Flyers o

Backlund Anxious to Test Hip/Groin

Very impressive turnout at Skate Zone today on 2 fronts: First, a lot of fans showed up to see the player scrimmages. Second, a lot of players are in those scrimmages, including goalie Sergei Bobrovsky. I chatted with Johan Backlund today. He had the look of concern on his face. He tells me he still has pain in his left hip and groin area from the surgery on June 25.

Let’s Remember Who We Hate

Photo:

Hockey players spend the first part of the offseason recovering, and the second part of the offseason preparing.  Most of them get to training camp in top shape, ready to go.  But as fans, what can we do to get back in the swing of things? We can watch highlight clips, go back through news archives of the previous season, and a few other things. It’s a start, but does it really get us fueled up

Here's Hoping for 25 and 35 From JVR

I think a lot in the shower. Until Apple comes up with their waterproof phone (v.6, I hear) the shower is the only place where I don't have the luxury of distraction from the reality that surrounds me. Books (ha!), magazines (New York Magazine only), TV, my laptop, and my phone all serve as escapes from the 370 (4th dimension!) degrees of actual life occurring every where I go.

Meltzer's Musings: 9-8-10

I remain in favor of the Flyers signing Bill Guerin to a one-year contract. From what I gather, the team would prefer to bring him in on a "tryout" basis (although there's nothing they can learn about him that they didn't already know) while evaluating their roster and salary cap situation. The Guerin camp wants a deal in place beforehand. One possibility if the club is unwilling to waive seven

Mike Richards Fight Fest

One of the features of the newly released NHL '11 that we're most excited about here at Flyers Goal Scored By is the inclusion of all 3 junior leagues that make up the CHL. We've always loved the culture of the CHL - the teams, the towns, the fights, the townies, and the fights. Also, we like the fights. So in lieu of actually thinking of something creative to write on this breezy Tuesday night in September, I'm going to post a clip of what might be the best fight of Mike Richards' hockey career. If you haven't seen this one from the 2005 OHL playoffs then shame on you.

10 Days Until Training Camp

Photo:

Labor Day Weekend has passed, grilling season has ended (for most people), pools are closing, and school is in full swing for the kids.  The weather is starting to turn crisp, and leaves will soon shrivel up and cover the streets.  And finally, after a few agonizing months of waiting, HOCKEY IS BACK! Another season of crushing the Devils? I hope so! (Courtesy: SB Nation) As usual, the Flyers have plenty of questions heading into the new season, along with high expectations.

Flyers vs. Caps Rookies: Commercial

So in 13 days the Flyers are going to take the ice and play another NHL team. Granted, the casual fan won't know many of the players on the ice for the Flyers, and even the most obsessed fan won't know much about the opposition, but it's hockey. And thank G-O-D for that. I can't imagine how long this hot, hot summer's been for fans that didn't have games well into June. That's not even a shot at anyone, that's just me truthin'.
