I hope the news about Ian Laperriere's ongoing post-concussion problems is not a precursor to the end of the player's career. It has been clear ever since Laperriere returned from the horrific facial injuries he suffered last spring that there was something not quite right with him on the ice. The courageous effort and determination was still there, but he had become ineffective at the same tasks

Flyers Preseason Gameday: Devils

      Above these words is the latest video from Versus for the NHL's opening night.  I enjoy it, but don't love it.  I do love the chills I get when I see the guy in the Rabbit jersey running towards the WellFare Center, but the GooGoo Dolls isn't working for me...neither is the suspension of disbelief I need to process why anyone would run a Devils flag from their minivan.  All in all a solid spot, but nothing compared to the NHL's recent work, including " No Words " and " Cup Raise ". But onto the meat and potatoes, for tonight, we have some Flyers hockey!  The Orange and Black travel up I-95 to take on the Devils in another preseason tilt. The game will be very interesting now, after what has transpired in the past couple of hours.

Flyers bit by injury bug, Laperriere and Leighton out

Every NHL team faces numerous injuries throughout the long grind of a season. Those injuries have already begun for the Philadelphia Flyers. Voluntary Retirement: Not an Option

It's a very strange dynamic, another one of the many reasons you and I will never understand what it's like to be a professional athlete. Maybe if our jobs closer resembled one of our childhood pastimes we'd stop checking our 401k balance and occasionally guessing what it would be like to actually just walk out and never come back. For the professional athlete it's an entirely different case. I follow the news fairly closely and I can only think of 3 players who have retired this offseason - Chris Chelios, Arron Ward, and that guy from the Canadiens

Whose gonna help us go farther this season? (Courtesy: Philadelphia Flyers e-mail sent to me, trying to get my to buy tickets.) I already recapped the first game , but haven’t talked about the three after that.  We split a pair of games with the Maple Leafs , and then beat the Minnesota   North Stars Wild .
