One of the most interesting battles in training camp is the battle for the seventh defense spot between Matt Walker and Oskars Bartulis. I have stated my opinion of the situation numerous times on the message board, and will reiterate it here. In the pre-cap NHL, Walker would have been an ideal number seven defenseman: a veteran depth guy who brings toughness and a strong work ethic. In the pre

Really had to be impressed with the enormous - not sure that describes it - turnout at Skate Zone on the 1st day of Flyers' training camp. More than 1,800 fans. That's larger than last year's crowd.

I am not able to attend the Flyers' first on-ice day of training camp today. Reportedly, an even bigger crowd than last year's throng of spectators turned out for the session, which started at 9 AM. Ville Leino (hip) and Blair Betts (shoulder) are continuing their post-surgery rehab work while skating with the rest of the team with no contact, while defenseman Chris Pronger (knee) and goaltende

Mike takes us through a tough bus ride last night and a day off before Training Camp starts.
So this morning I posted that there wasn’t a ton of information about yesterday’s rookie game. As of now, a few hours later, we have a pair of articles focused on Sergei Bobrovsky: Breakdown of Bobrovsky’s debut Is Bobrovsky the Flyers’ Future Goaltender? Alright, so maybe I jumped the gun on my expectations for him. He hasn’t had a goalie coach in 2 years; the KHL style doesn’t require him to do lateral movement; rebound control; unaccustomed to sharp angle shots… These aren’t exactly the things I love hearing about “great” prospect. Then again, Seravalli makes a good point, ” Executives within the organization believe he will be a legitimate NHL goaltender -- with what they have said and what they are willing to pay him -- and other members of the rookie league camp have sworn he has serious talent.” Anyway, the work week is coming to an end

There was not too much morning activity going on today at the SkateZone in Voorhees on the first official day of full training camp. Some notes from the day: * Matt Carle skated on his own this morning, while Johan Backlund worked with goaltending coach Jeff Reese at the other end of the ice. Backlund, who is still recovering from off-season hip surgery, did not do any splits in net. He worked

Yesterday afternoon, the Flyers rookies lost 4-3 to the Capitals rookies. The game should have been available online at the Flyers website, but they had technical difficulties and couldn’t broadcast the game. And unfortunately there are no reports from actual reporters for me to get a lot of information from. So most of my information comes from the following three sources: Frank Seravalli tweeted live from the game Brief recap on the Flyers website Live reporting from the Flyers website yesterday (I don’t see it online anymore, so I’m mostly going from memory) Not too long until we finally see Bobrovsky...(Courtesy: BroadStreetHockey.com) Sergei Bobrovsky started in net for the Flyers and played the first two periods before giving way to Adam Morrison (hopefully he doesn’t grow a ridiculous mustache like he other Adam Morrison ). He let in a pair of goals, but I think faced a ton of shots (12-13 in the first period)
