A little later today, Paul Holmgren will release the information about which players will need to undergo offseason surgery. As has been reported elsewhere, the list almost definitely includes Mike Richards (wrist and possibly shoulder) and potentially Chris Pronger (back). In addition, Kimmo Timonen has nagging back and hip issues that clearly affected him down the stretch and in the playoffs

Last year after the Stanley Cup Final, it suddenly became fashionable around the NHL to say that a team can win with "average" goaltending as long as it scores enough and has a strong team defense in place. I never agreed with that idea.
