Meltzer’s Musings: Playoff Post-mortem
There really isn't much else that can be said about the Flyers - Bruins series that is not self-evident from even a casual glance at the four games. Boston was the better team in every single facet of the game. The Bruins played rugged and opportunistic hockey, getting outstanding goaltending when they needed it. The Flyers skated poorly, defended poorly, failed to generate enough point shots on n

Flyers Swept For First Time Since 1997
The Flyers were swept in a seven-game series for just the sixth time in franchise history and the first time since the 1997 Stanley Cup Final vs. Detroit. (They were also swept in two additional five-game series.) The Flyers are now 6-3 in a series following a win in a Game 7. This is the first time the Flyers have ever been swept in a series following a seven-game series win.

Bruins captain Zdeno Chara on sweep
Post Game Quotes Quotes courtesy of Boston Bruins PR BOSTON BRUINS DEFENSEMAN ZDENO CHARA On how much the win means to the team… Well I think that it’s, in some way it’s obviously a nice goal to reach, but at the same time I think that we are excited but we know that next round is going to be again a tough one. And we know who we are going to face. So we just have to get some rest and prepare for next round. But right now we are going to enjoy today’s victory.

Flyers defenseman Sean O’Donnell quotes
PHILADELPHIA FLYERS DEFENSEMAN SEAN O’DONNELL On why they lost the series… I’m not going to say the better team won, but the team that was playing better is moving on. They are hitting on all cylinders right now. We put a good effort tonight it just seems we weren’t hitting on all cylinders. It seemed like when we did get a chance it was jumping over a stick, or they were getting a stick in the lane

Quotes: Bruins goalie Tim Thomas
BOSTON BRUINS GOALTENDER TIM THOMAS On the talk of last year being put to rest… I hope so. To be quite honest, as a player you hear all the talk about what happened last year and you have to ignore it to be able to do what we just did, winning this series. But to be honest I’m glad that it’s over, I’m glad that it’s done with. Because the longer that series would have went the more talk about last year. So I’m glad that is put behind us as a team, as an organization and the fans

Quotes: Flyers coach Peter Laviolette
PHILADELPHIA FLYERS HEAD COACH PETER LAVIOLETTE On what stood out to why they lost the series… Probably defensively, we weren’t able to generate what we had done all year. They did a good job through the neutral zone and a good job in their own end. We couldn’t penetrate. Defensively, I think they (the Bruins) did a pretty good job.

Quotes: Flyers left wing James van Riemsdyk
PHILADELPHIA FLYERS FORWARD JAMES VAN RIEMSDYK On why the Bruins dominated the series… You know what, I think, I don’t know, maybe they were doing a smarter job with the puck and, I don’t know, I didn’t feel like we had as many odd man rushes and chances off the rush through transition, so they did a good job of managing the puck and yeah, I don’t know, they tightened things up, obviously, a little bit too. On if Chris Pronger would have made a difference in the series if he were healthy… That’s something, you know, we can only speculate about but, obviously, I mean, his track record speaks for itself so I guess you never really know.
