Winter Classic worthy of Lindros reunion

The 2012 Winter Classic is coming to Philly and with it comes an incredible opportunity for the Flyers to give a warm embrace to their prodigal son, Eric Lindros. Think about it. Big E playing in an alumni game, flanked by Legion of Doom linemates John LeClair and Mikael Renberg. Now THAT would be a winter classic! The Flyers have a rich tradition and have done an excellent job of preserving it. But now is the time for them to move away from their Broad Street Bully days and celebrate the players who have carried the torch for the past quarter century

Meltzer’s Musings: Coburn, Carle and O’Donnell

The Flyers have generally gone a good job at locking up the players they most want and need to keep before the players reach unrestricted free agency. They will have some challenging decisions to make over the next year about what do about Braydon Coburn and Matt Carle. Both defensemen will become unrestricted free agents after the 2011-12 season. The 26-year-old Coburn currently earns $3.2 mi

Exclusive: Holmgren on Richards vs. media

I was going through my tape recorder today and came across a one-on-one interview I had with Paul Holmgren in March. We were discussing Mike Richards and I asked him if he thought it was important for the captain of a hockey team to speak with the media. This was Holmgren's response (remember, this was before all the post-season questions about Richards' captaincy) : "I would hope that as he gets older and more mature he’ll get better. I mean, I don’t like dealing with you guys either, not because I don’t like you guys or anything like that

Massage the Minds for Game 2 in Vancouver

Kinda surprised me how the Sharks faded against the Canucks in the third period of Game 1. I asked Todd McLellan the other day whether the emotional high of a Game 7 win over Detroit simply didn't carry over because his players seemed flat. He agreed to a point and then on Tuesday admitted he spent most of the morning's video session "massaging the minds" of his players, trying to convince
