Eric Wellwood seems to have become a forgotten man in the discussion about potential contenders for earning an NHL roster spot out of training camp. Right now, the odds appear to work against the 21-year-old winger breaking camp with the big club. Even with the departure of Darroll Powe, Wellwood is in a tough spot on the depth chart. As of now, the Flyers have 48 of a possible 50 players under NHL contract. This does not include restricted free agent forward Jon Kalinski or goaltender Jason Bacashihua (whose reported signing has yet to be officially announced by the team but appeared in an NHLPA memo). It is not surprising that Chris Pronger's rehabilitation from back surgery has him several weeks behind where he would typically be in starting to prepare for the next hockey season. It would not be the end of the world for the team if Pronger missed the start of training camp and the start of the regular season (for the second straight year).
