Meltzer’s Musings: Pronger, Hockey Greats and more

I did not listen in on the Chris Pronger conference call yesterday (I was in transit back to Philadelphia virtually the entire day). In reading the transcript, however, I got a different sense than Tim Panaccio did about whether the Flyers' top defenseman is likely to be ready for opening night. Tim is optimistic about it, based on Pronger's upbeat demeanor.

Pronger Expects to Play 82 Games

Chris Pronger is feeling a lot better and was in a chipper mood and joking around with reporters today during a conference call. Pronger has ‘no idea’ when he’ll return

In a conference call with reporters today Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger said he is making progress in his rehab from back and hand surgeries but has not lifted a weight in six months and is unsure when he'll resume skating. Pronger said his hand, which was surgically repaired in March, is about 80 percent healed and will need at least another week of healing before he can begin weight training.
