Meltzer’s Musings: Standout Rookies

What are your expectations for Brayden Schenn in his rookie NHL season? It is a realistic hope for the soon-to-be 20-year-old Schenn to match or surpass the point totals that Mike Richards put up (11 goals, 23 assists, 34 points in 79 games) at age 20 in his first NHL season. Anything beyond about 15 goals and 40 points would be a pleasant surprise. However, it would not be entirely out of the

Here's Bryz (that's what we call him here) teaching some kids how to do math or some shit. I don't know, I haven't watched it, but if you're into goalies, which we absolutely are not, maybe watch this: And if you don't like that then how about this badass Hell's Angel Doggie? It's a nut, but it's also the name of a town:

Snider, Emrick to be inducted in US Hockey Hall of Fame

Flyers chairman Ed Snider will be inducted onto the US Hockey Hall of Fame, it was announced today. He'll be joined by former Flyers play-by-play announcer Mike Emrick, along with former NHL players Chris Chelios, Keith Tkachuk and Gary Suter. Snider's contribution to the success of hockey in Philadelphia and the Atlantic region of the United States is immeasurable. In 1966, the founder and current owner of the Philadelphia Flyers made a successful bid for the team when the NHL made its first expansion, and has since turned the organization into one of the most successful franchises in the league. His commitment to advancing the game at the amateur level is evidenced in many ways, including in 2005 when he founded the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation to provide unprivileged children in the Philadelphia area with an opportunity to learn to play hockey at local rinks

Meltzer’s Musings: Best/Worst Enforcers

Thank you to everyone who chimed in on the Flyers All-Province/All-National teams. Tomorrow's blog will look at the best rookie seasons in Flyers history. The Big E vs. Roddy

On July 20, we posed the question of whether fans would see Ron Hextall over Pelle Lindbergh as the Flyers' best goalie for their particular era. There was pretty good debate both here on Hockeybuzz and CSNPhilly.com as to who got the nod, but in the end, most people chose Hextall, who was influential on the game itself and with the Flyers through two, different decades. It's hard to judge

Welcome to Philly, Andreas Lilja

Photo:

This is how it started: "With the 7th pick overall in the 2000 Minnesota Wild/Columbus Blue Jackets NHL Expansion Draft the Wild are happy to select, from the Los Angeles Kings, defenseman Sean O'Donnell." ......... "With the 54th pick in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, the Los Angeles Kings are happy to select 25 year old Swedish defenseman Andreas Lilja from Malmo IF of the Swedish Elite League." And this is how it will most likely end: The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have signed 6-3, 220-lb free agent defenseman Andreas Lilja to a two year contract worth $1.475M. **You can't hear it right now but Elton John is singing the Circle of Life somewhere right now (probably a gay cruise ship).** Lost is the all the hubbub of team dismantling trades, strange free agent acquisitions, and gossip that no one gives half a shit about, was the signing of what might prove to be the Flyers 6th defenseman for the next two years. And this is important because many people like to use quotes they read of off calendars as maps that explain how to navigate their lives, so surely "you're only as strong as your weakest link." And we have a lot of guys competing to be that weakest link, with Lilja leading by a nose attached to a concussed head
