Pronger injured after taking stick to face

Flyers captain Chris Pronger was injured in the first period of Monday’s game after being stuck in the face by the stick of Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mikhail Grabovski. Pronger covered his face and immediately skated to the Flyers dressing room. The stick appeared to hit Pronger near his eyes, and if one was struck, this injury could be serious. The Flyers' only initial response was general manager Paul Holmgren issuing a statement saying, "Chris Pronger will not return." There was no penalty called on the play and Flyers fans booed loudly, but, by rule, the referees made the correct call because Grabovski hit Pronger on the follow-through of his shot. Pronger went into the game leading the Flyers in ice time at 23 minutes, 30 seconds per game

The 3 Commandments

After more or less throwing his defense under the Zamboni on Saturday night about "communication" issues, goalie Ilya Bryzgalov, who did not start MON vs. Toronto, got to work on commands today. Bryz spent 15 minutes before anyone else got on the ice working with goalie coach Jeff Reese on commands. You know, the commands he told the media he wanted to hear from now on in net: Play it,

Flyers Gameday: Leafs

Photo:

Sergei Bobrovsky and the Flyers play host to the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight down at the Well.  Philly is going to try to break the two game losing streak tonight against a familiar foe.  This is going to be a blue collar game, with plenty of physical action (read: ton of penalties) and a close game (read: probably a 14-12 final score).  The Leafs are a quality hockey team, they are no longer considered the bottom dregs of the Eastern Conference.  Brian Burke has assembled a quality core of young forwards, and a hard nosed blue line.  Sound familiar?  For a game against this Leafs, there is a ton of subplots to tonight's game.  Jody Shelley is making his first start of the season after being suspended in the preseason. Looking like he'll sub in for Nodl, who while decent on the PK, hasn't amounted to much in the offensive zone.  Matt Walker is also looking to be dressed tonight as the Flyers try to stock up their arms against the very physical Leafs team. There is also some Schenn on Schenn action tonight as Braydon takes on his older brother Luke.  Braydon hasn't looked that bad, but the teams losing funk and his call up from the Phantomscan't be unrelated.  Both teams are still feeling out their new parts, and tonight's game is already very important to both clubs.  Stopping Phil Kessel will be a big part of tonight's gameplan. Scientists believe he is on pace for 115 goals and a 436 points this year.  He's come out of the gate scorching hot and has scored some very timely goals in games for the Leafs, helping them stay atop the Northeast

It’s Hartnell Time

The renissance of Scott Hartnell is upon us. There have been plenty of stories written over the past two weeks about Hartnell's diminished role and decrease in ice time that have obviously led a number of people to jump to the conclusion that Hartnell will/should be traded. Which is ridiculous.
