Flyers won’t try to fix problems by naming new captain

All-Star defenseman Kimmo Timonen calling out teammates in a post-game interview the other day led to speculation Flyers management soon might switch the letter on the front of his game jersey from “A” to “C.” After all, Flyers captain Chris Pronger hasn’t played since November and was ruled done for the season in December. “It hasn’t come up,” coach Peter Laviolette said Monday, a full day off for his team. “Right now Chris Pronger is the captain of the team. He’s injured. We have experienced leadership in the room with Kimmo and Danny (Briere), Scott Hartnell, Claude (Giroux), Jaromir (Jagr) … We have lots of leadership in the room.” Timonen and Danny Briere have been alternate captains all season, and Claude Giroux became a third when Pronger was lost.
