Meszaros headed for back surgery

Flyers defenseman Andrej Meszaros, out since March 1 with a lower-body injury, actually has been nursing a serious upper-body injury that probably will end his season. Meszaros will undergo surgery on Wednesday to remove a small disc fragment in his lower back. The procedure, which will be performed by Dr Alex Vaccaro at Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, will sideline Meszaros for another 6-to-8 weeks, and with the Flyers’ regular season ending two weeks from Saturday, it appears he’s done for the year unless his team goes on a long playoff run. Meszaros, 26, has 7 goals, 18 assists and 25 points in 62 games this season.
