Simmonds sticks up for buddy amid racial slurs

Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds, one of 28 blacks in the NHL this season, wasn't happy hearing his good buddy Joel Ward was the subject of racial slurs on Twitter after scoring the winnning goal for the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night in Game 7 of their first round series against the Boston Bruins. "Obviously, things get said," Simmonds said after the Flyers' practice on Thursday.
