An admirable, hard-fought effort Sunday night in Pittsburgh didn’t produce the desired result for a desperate Flyers team, even if the team did get a point. Despite playing a generally sound defensive game — a rarity — and getting strong goaltending from Ilya Bryzgalov (notwithstanding Sidney Crosby’s along-the-ice one-timer to tie it, in which Bryz’s molasses-like Philadelphia Flyers Trade Deadline Primer: Looking at the Roster - Broad Street Buzz - Broad Street Buzz - A Philadelphia Flyers Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

The Adirondack Phantoms may be bringing it back, although it’s a bit late. On Saturday they took on the Connecticut Whale and bested them in a 5-2 decision. The Phantoms were good in this game by only taking eight penalty minutes and leading in shots 35-24. After being routed by the Portland Pirates a few weeks ago, the Adirondack Phantoms were looking to seek revenge in Sunday’s game. They did just that by defeating the Pirates 4-2. The Phantoms just knew how to find the back of Mark Visentin‘s net, because the Pirates actually led in shots 42-18. Much has been made of the recent struggles of this ’13 Flyers team. As of this writing, they currently sit in 12th place, with a modest 27 points, in a tough Eastern conference. To me, the most telling statistic is their abysmal road record, which stands at 4-12

The Adirondack Phantoms took on the Hershey Bears last Sunday, and it was pretty much no contest. The Bears crushed them, as they typically do, 5-2. Penalty minutes were a non-issue in this game. Not because the Phantoms were being disciplined but because both teams logged an equal 12 PIMS

The Goalie Carousel between Glen Falls and Philadelphia continues! Last week the Flyers decided to swap Michael Leighton for Brian Boucher, again, despite that Ilya Bryzgalov has gotten nearly every start this season. The Flyers need to find a solid back up. Between Boucher and Leighton, neither of them seem to be it.
