DEFENDING THE PHILOSOPHY

It’s time to attempt to eviscerate a long-standing misnomer about the Flyers.

There is a belief out there that the Flyers are horrible at recognizing defensive talent in the draft.

It’s easy to make that argument when looking at past drafts ...

Meltzer’s Musings: Two Flyers Prospects in Memorial Cup, WC Semis

Apologies in advance for the brevity of today's blog. I have an early morning flight to catch. Later today, the two IIHF World Championship semifinal games will be held in Stockholm. Phantoms goalie Cal Heeter is a member of Team USA but has not dressed for a

Three of the four quarterfinal matches featured Flyers players. Come tomorrow's semis, there will only be one.

What If …

One of the most frustrating aspects of following the Flyers over the years - decades - is how they have handled themselves regarding defensemen in the NHL Draft.

As much as you can make the case they have consistently failed to produce a No. 1 goalie of any "ilk" who took them to a Stanley Cup Final since Ron Hextall, the situation on defense is just as depressing.

Meltzer’s Musings: Briere, World Championship QFs

Is Briere Tradable?

Some Interesting Boston Ties to Past

Well, I took a pounding in my picks in the first round for the Western Conference, going 1-3 after being perfect in the East.

I didn't think San Jose represented much of a threat; didn't think Detroit would upset Anaheim; and I always try to find an upset and was encouraged with the Blues start against LA in that series but should have known better, I guess.

I still think we see either Pit
