Yeah yeah, it’s been a while. My data tells me there’s a handful of readers out there checking the site for updates on a daily basis. I’ll leap to the wild conclusion that each of you are inconsolably upset and disappointed with the lack of fresh content. Truth be told, I briefly considered discontinuing the blog

Flyers Gameday: To Catch a Nashville Predator
March 16, 2010
Photo:
What does this picture have to do with the Flyers playing the Predators tonight? Not a damn thing, but it's giving me eye boners... Tonight the Flyers take on the Nashville Predators in their only meeting of the year. The hot and cold Flyers are taking on the solid Preds in what I hope will be a good game. Frankly, I don't know much about the Predators. They have 81 points, which is good for 7th in the West. Tonight is "St. Patty's in Smashville". And yes, "Smashville" is what Nashville calls itself. So besides a hockey game, there will tons of drunk Nashvillians. With the craziest schedule in history, the Flyers will look to show up with a consistent effort and high level of energy for the entire game. I mean, lets get serious....if they can't get "up" for a game against the Blueshirts, how are the Flyers supposed to get "up" for a game against the Predators? There are some agitators on the Preds (heavyweight Wade Belak and bizzaro-Asham Jordin Tootoo) but does that get the blood boiling? What, do you get pumped because of a guy named Pekka Rinne, who as the Preds #1 goaltender has this team in the hunt of a playoff berth? (Rinne, who just signed a new contract, woulda looked goooood as the Flyers #1 next year) But if I were the Flyers, obviously I'd want to take all my frustration about World War 2 out on that sauerkraut Marcel Goc. Yes, "The Goc" from Team Germany. You just know that underneath that ugly Predators jersey there is surveillance equipment for his homeland. If Germany attacks us and the land invasion begins in Nashville...well I know who I'd look at first....I'm just sayin'. So what do the Flyers have to do? Well they need to break down a great 1-2 defensive combo in Ryan Suter and Shea Weber. They need to limit the sneaky play of JP Dumont, Martin Erat and David Legwand...all three will be buzzing around the net all night. They also need to be physical if a Tootoo (Man alive, a Carcillo - Tootoo scrap could be the best fight of the year!) gets out of control. The Flyers also need to simplify things and, frankly, play better hockey. This surfer-vibe of "hey man, everything's cool, take another rip of the binger" isn't going to cut it as March ticks down to April. I expect Pronger, Lappy, Richards and Kimmo to have this group constantly fired up and ready to battle for 2 points. With desperate teams nipping at their orange and black heels, it's time to nut up or shut up. The game means a lot to both clubs. Dropping points at this point of the year is not a luxury one can afford. You have to show up and play intense hockey for 60 minutes, and even that doesn't guarantee a victory. Nashville is a solid hockey club that is well coached and well prepared. Do not sleep on Nashville

Flyers Gameday: 3-16-10 vs. Preds
March 16, 2010
PREVIEW (11:15 AM) The one-step-forward-one-step-back Flyers will try to shake off their frustrating loss to the Rangers tonight when they travel to Nashville to take on a Predators club that appears likely to be the seventh seed in the Western Conference. Despite possessing a less talented roster than the Flyers, Nashville has 81 points to the Flyers' 76 -- in the tougher of the two NHL confer

Glen Metropolit Still Has Gas in the Tank
March 16, 2010
Photo:
Who knew Glen still had it in him. Talk about your late bloomers. Or perseverance. Or male pattern baldness. His story has been well documented from his gansta childhood to his currently incarcerated brother, but despite a rough youth and a seemingly endless carousel of hockey towns and even countries, Metro is on the verge of challenging his career high in points this year. While he's already surpassed his career high in goals by netting 3 more than during his 2006-07 campaign with Atlanta, he's still 5 short of the 33 points he notched with Boston in 2007-08. With 12 games to go it's by no means in the bag, but a big game could have him flirting with the new achievement. At the age of 33 Glen Metropolit is the 5th leading scorer on the enigmatic Montreal Canadiens club

Things I learned this weekend.
March 16, 2010
1. The guys on ESPN radio in NYC cannot pronounce hockey player names. Coburn was "Cowburn", Powe was "Po" and Leighton was Leightonen. Every. Single. Time. I wanted to crash my car into a pole to stop the insanity. (I was driving to CT and had to catch the game in transit.) 2.

Riley Cote Looking Sharp
March 15, 2010
Photo:
Let me make one last thing clear about Sunday's Rangers game before I never talk about it again - Riley Cote looked wonderful out there. I was as shit-shocked as you were when I saw number 32 lumbering down the side boards in the opening minutes of the game. I believe I texted Fran a simple 'WTF', knowing that he would be staring mouth agape at the tv thinking the same exact thing that the other 20M Americans watching the game were (doesn't every Sunday afternoon game get millions of viewers since the Olympics?). And that would be 'what the Mark Summers is Riley Cote dressed for?' But don't even act like he didn't look great out there with his trim haircut and his brand new Reebok 11k's with the tongue tucked in. The guy looked put together! And if there were a stat on it I'd prove it to you, but you're just going to have to trust me on this one. Riley Cote handled the puck more yesterday afternoon than he had in his previous 12 games this season

Peter Laviolette quotes from Monday
March 15, 2010
Q: Why the day off. Is it because the team had 8 games in 13 days? PL: "Yes. The schedule is ridiculous right now. Every week is four (games) in six (days).
